Never been a member but have a background in it from my family.
Both of my parents were members but left after 1992 I think..
My mum was actually going to be the Brighton Pavilion candidate for Labour in 1987 but she had to pull out because of my impending birth..lol.

I've met him twice talking about Brighton Homeless Trust who he now works for, and for whom I raised money for this xmas.
He seemed a really inspirational and decent guy, the sort of person that I would want in MY labour party.

It's many years since I've spoke to Andy and Jeane, but they were terrific people, the kind of people sadly that Kinnock and Blair drove out.
Steve Bassam, I don't actually mind, he was civil to those on the left he disagreed with, he was with me at any rate but perhaps he didn't see me as much of a threat
And of course you can only admire the results for the Albion of the kind of lobbying Bassam's done for us in government circles in recent times. Selling out does have its advantages

Absolutely agree about Andy and Jean. She now runs the womans refuge and campaigns tirelessy against domestic violence. I was in 7 Dials Ward untill it got suspended, people like Richard and Linda Austin, Ruchard Stanton, again a thriving local ward shut down in the early 90's anti Militant purge. The joke was that 7 dials was about as un'Militant' as anywhere. Was it 5 Councillors who got thrown out of the party for not paying the Poll Tax?
Ah, some old Labour hands here. I left in the mid-80s when the anti-Militant purges first started - I was never a member in Brighton though.
It always seemed like second nature to vote Labour; it still seems hard even now not to do it. But I can't bring myself to vote for a Tory party, even if these Tories wear red rosettes.
