From that I take it you believe more transfer business has already been done from June to now, than will be done from now through to September.
Personally I don't agree.
I bet there will be a transfer pooh-storm.
I hope we are cash rich enough to take advantage.
I bet all of those team you deem to be more settled will still be doing lots of business.
I also bet of those teams you are pitting the Albion against they are the ones spending Premier League money.
We are not, and never will be, in competition with a parachute payment club.
By the end of the transfer window we will have played four league games - 12 possible points - nearly 10% of the season. Those 12 points ( or any fraction of ) could mean the difference between staying in this league and relegation. Will you be so laid back if we're relegated by 1 point or miss out on the play offs by a point ?
The season start date is guessable months in advance - it's hardly rocket science that you want to ensure you have as many players signed up as possible by early August.
Real insightful, very much like the rest of your posts. Now, what other clubs trying to leave it to last minute to trying and haggle a much, much lower deal rather than pay a small fee in a position we were pretty desperate to fill. From reports, the Wolves fee wasn't even big, but the club trying to grab a bargain shot themselves in the foot.
... but now I do have to seriously wonder what the hell the club are doing ? How on earth do you fail to sign a player that isn't wanted at their home club, has been playing for us for a while and has already agreed personal terms ?
I can only guess that we try too hard to drive down the price and deal to a point it drags the process out long enough for other clubs to sneak in.
So, if you were offered possibly double the money in wages and the club you were registered was offered a lot more money in transfer fee, it is our fault that we cannot offer premier league football or compete financially with the premier club? Get real please. WE ARE NOT A BIG CLUB. (YET- we might be one day. Better this way than being Portsmouth)
21k season ticket holders, highest attendances, new 120 million stadium, category 1 academy. Despite all this lets act like a small club on the pitch eh? When can we start to look to the future and actually say...you know what? we are a pretty big club! I thought we left our Withdean mentality behind a few years back.
The academy opened in June. Don't think it will have made much difference yet.
We have had 3 seasons at the new stadium. Not sure we have made much money from that yet.
Some of the clubs we are competing with have a recent history of premier league football and are in a much stronger position than us due to the ridiculous parachute payments.
So sorry to disagree, we are small fry compared to them. Didn't TB say that the profit from selling Ulloa was less than 1 parachute payment?

No he said all the season ticket money, attendance, catering and sponsorship was less than one parachute payment.

You've missed my point somewhat. The club had the ability to sign Ward at the price they finally agreed and at the wages finally agreed weeks ago. If they hadn't spent so much time faffing around and achieving nothing Ward would have been our player.
How do you know that for a FACT?You've missed my point somewhat. The club had the ability to sign Ward at the price they finally agreed and at the wages finally agreed weeks ago. If they hadn't spent so much time faffing around and achieving nothing Ward would have been our player.

So even though you've written The club had the ability to sign Ward at the price they finally agreed and at the wages finally agreed weeks ago as a statement of fact, it isn't.Well that depends on if you believe Andy Naylor or not.

What it actually is, is a third hand comment from someone who took no part in the negotiations or is even employed by any of the parties involved.
I wonder what Naylor's reply would be if I asked him:-
"why did you say 'The club had the ability to sign Ward at the price they finally agreed and at the wages finally agreed weeks ago'?"
