Quite frankly I don't want players at this club who think it is acceptable to agree terms and then go somewhere else. I don't care how good they are.

I guess he felt the same about a club he played for and liked fannying around all summer. He does have his career and livelihood to consider as well.

How does everybody know FOR A FACT that Ward would have signed a deal in June?

The transfer market works both ways, esp for a player who has had a stand out season and can all but guarantee a job with us.
If I were Ward's agent my advise would have been:-

'hang on, you can sign this deal any time you want, but let me see what else is about first'.

Exactly, It's the club I blame for this one by spending the summer penny pinching and not grasping the simple fact that if you want quality you have to pay the going rate for it.

Of course that's a possibility, but then surely if everyone had that mind-set we'd have a bun-fight at the end of August. There are plenty of clubs who have got deals over the finish line for their players. But the information coming out of Wolves was no contact, which may or may not have been true, equally we have been linked with the Ajax, Liverpool and Rangers LBs, so it was as though we were trying to force someone's hand.

As I said earlier for me our strategy is wrong and does not support the managers preparation.

Well if the Argus is correct I do blame Ward.

Wouldn't compromise on his £13k a week wages and the fee was £500k. And when the club finally cave in then obviously his agent contacted other clubs to see who was interested.

But all of that is your (NSC's) guess work.

Nobody actually knows and yet the most negative anti Albion possibility is deemed to be the FACT.

Not for all, as with the Rangers player, where McCoist issued a statement and comments coming out of the Wolves camp (re - the level of contact). It is also a fact that a number of other teams appear to be more settled than us.

I'd put myself in the same category as the OP. Up until now I've been happy to wait and see what they come up with, but as we've now missed out on what should've been our easiest target of the summer (wanted to play for us, Wolves didn't want him) the pendulum is swinging the other way. And if any of the people who I've been arguing with for the last month says "I told you so" you can get f**ked!!! :p I still believe we had to give them a chance to get it right and some people on NSC lost their marbles too early.

For me the buck stops with Bloom. They seem to have adopted a policy of trying to get maximum value at every opportunity, I'd imagine that is 2nd nature to Tony in the rest of his businesses. It clearly hasn't worked for the football club because you have other clubs to consider. it's happened twice now and that isn't an accident. Tony is still a relatively new chairman and so at the very least he will be learning some pretty harsh lessons at the moment, so far the garden has been all rosy for him and it'll be interesting to see how he reacts now under a bit of pressure.

Anybody blaming Burke for this summers' failures need to get real, ultimately Tony is responsible for guiding Burke on how to use the budget. If Burke's not being liberal enough with it then he needs a push in the right direction, I said the other day that they'll be talking about this stuff constantly, Burke isn't locked in a room by himself and it wouldn't surprise me if Tony had to sign off on every deal before it went through. If something isn't going through quick enough Tony has the power to step in and say "this is important, why not throw an extra few quid at it".

They still have two weeks left, but they're going to need to do some pretty insane voodoo magic/alchemy to salvage things from this point.

I will try my best to never work for them either.

Good luck with that then. I've never worked for any company that has never made a worker redundant. As someone hit by redundancy twice I now always ask in an interview how many people they've made redundant in the last five years. You should see some hiring managers squirm at that question !

Anyway, if you were looking for a new job, were offered one at say £35k which you accepted verbally but just before sending the paperwork back another employer offered you a job for £55k, are you seriously saying you would take the £35k job ?

The fact that we will now appear desperate to bring anyone in will not help us in our negotiations, and is perhaps something else to consider in future windows.

Unless it's all part of some long term masterplan and they believe the value of players and contracts is going to bottom out once FFP restrictions kick in. If that happens the £15ish mill we've made this summer will be worth an awful lot more.

Does seem a bit far fetched though

Agree. In any walk of life if you see something you buy it there and then, or run the risk of it not being there at a later date. It's no different if it's me buying a particular pair of jeans I like or a club buying a footballer.

To many self righteous people on here, Tony has stated that we will have a competitive squad by the 1st Sept. Has that date arrived. Get over your selfs and at least wait until the 1st and then you can cry and blame whoever you want and stamp your feet and tell the world, it so unfair and that you are not renewing your season ticket and then moan about attendences, but lets at least wait for the window to shut. Just remember the club have made a lot of money since January and yes it is by selling players. Oh yes they would be the players that the club brought into the club, good players, so much so that we sold them for more money. So the club are not doing a bad job and I will wait until the 1st.

Is our team better than last season? If the answer is yes we are moving forward, no and we are moving backwards.

The problem is the season has started and even if they recruit 5 decent players we would have missed a months football and they will need several months to settle in.

Bruno playing in midfield and Calderon playing left back - can you honestly say that the club is doing a decent job at the moment?

As much as I'm still hoping it will all come together, we do have to remember at one point Tony Bloom was confident we would have a competitive squad for the start of the season and that didn't happen either.

From Ward's perspective I don't blame him for jumping at chance for Prem football and trying to hold out for a better offer, but that's why as a club you put a deadline on the deal. He clearly enjoyed his time with us and had we put a concrete offer on the table in June and given him a few weeks to look around and mull it over he prob would have signed. Instead we drag it out leave the door open and are surprsed when someone snaps him up. Shocking work all round and I am genuinely worried about the season now.
