I hear Lucas was acting like Communist again yesterday on her soap box at Hove...

Indeed...

Erm... well there is only one question mark. But anyway...... not decriminalising drugs would not necessarily manifest itself within the structure of the penal system. It is not a case of punishing the suppliers , but protecting potential users against 'an open market'

By not decriminalising, it might stop those who may be susceptible to becoming involved in drug taking, not to have the temptation waived freely and legally in their faces.

As Zammo said we should ''just say no''.

Every drug taker starts with the softs 'cannabis' or maybe ketamine nowadays then graduates to the hard stuff usually heroin.

So they allow young impressionable people to buy soft drugs as freely as the can ciggies.

6 months later they die with a needle sticking out of their arm.

The war on drugs may be slow, but it will keep the children of decent clean living people safe from the horrors of addiction.

Actually they probably start on alcohol.

Your last paragraph is a joke. I assume that you think you and your wife are "decent, clean living people" and I am sorry to say that is no defence whatsoever against your children ending up as alkies, junkies or crack heads. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

People seem to have got off point wit the drug discussion. Timmy was supposed to be expaining how her policies are ruining Brighton. How is the burden on the NHS (a national service) ruining Brighton?

I'm a critic of her and it seems that even I'm defending her against HB&B! Mainly because I can't think of a time where she has claimed another organisations achievement as her own!

It's the Timmy-Effect. God knows how many true blue conservatives he put off while campaigning door-to-door in the last election. He's probably single handedly responsible for their third place finish (and not in a good way).

However the taking and supplying of drugs is currently a criminal act and it has not stopped those who may be susceptible to becoming involved in drug taking. The temptation is still there, and if the person was to be put in jail then the chances are their drug taking habits would increase.

As the theoretical approach is not working lets just get into the facts of Portugal which was one of the worst countries for hard drug use before they bought in the policy of decriminalising drugs in 2001. It was found that 5 years after the liberalisation of the drug law, in which jail time was actually replaced by therapy with a psychologist, social worker and law enforcement, illegal drug use by teenagers had actually declined, HIV infections among drug users had dropped, deaths that related to hard drugs had been cut by around half, and the number of people actually opting to seek treatment for their drug addictions doubled.

Having a criminalised drug policy means is hindering those who want to get off drugs because of the fear they will be put in jail for their addiction. And decriminalising it has in fact helped in Portugal.

That post (and probably every one of of his in this thread) is a joke.

Well so far it's his only explanation as to why Caroline Lucas is ruining Brighton. Until he can find another policy avenue, I think it's going to stick with the drug discussion...

A member of David Cameron's extended family has been treated for drug addiction. I presume you see the PMs family as decent and clean living? It didnt help him much did it?

Don't agree. At all.

No. There are more important things to do such as choose a film and tweet about the selection process.

hove born&bred - Conservatives Seek New Candidates for Council | Brighton Hove Conservatives

Why not take Caroline Lucas on instead of sniping on a forum she is not a member of or are you too scared?

He'd rather flail his rather unimportant and apparently misdirected low-informed opinion (if intent to smear without proper cause can be elevated to such a title) on NSC and attempt to convince some poor idiot that he's becoming quite the spokesman!

hb&b has replaced 1066gull as our own village idiot.
