Certainly not - but the arguments put to me by a Psychology lecturer opened my eyes and having done some volunteer work with some pretty depressed gay guys it makes you think that in "some" people minds its not a choice rather an illness.

Gay people do seem to be more promiscious than straight people for some reason. You only have to have an evening out round the gay bars in Brighton and you will see alsorts going on which you wouldnt see in straight bars.

It has also been argued that Homosexuals have suffered abuse in earlier life in some form, be it emotional or physical or sexual, with the victim often not knowing about it.

Erm, if the victim doesn't know about, how the f*** does the person doing the research know about it? Or did you by any chance make that up?

I'm going for option B.

As I said in my previous post, it isn't a choice.

You either are or you aren't, simple as that. You don't choose to be short or tall, you don't choose to be right or left-handed, you don't choose to be gay or straight. You are what you are.

As for it being an illness, I thought that ridiculous idea went out a fair few decades ago now.

If you take it from a Freudian persepctive then Homosexuality is a perversion rather than an illness. He suggests it comes from men not being able to resolve issues regarding castration and sexual difference.

I believe it is all related to development and then further life experience but not that it is a perversion. Mind you I'm not even sure Freud was suggesting it was a perversion in the sense that we think of a perversion.

These politically correct bonfire nights have gone too far. It used to be penny for the guy when I was young. These days it's probably penny for the gay.

Gay men promiscuous?? Hmmmm It hasn't got anything to do with the fact that they are all MEN has it? Sake, if us Hetero men knew we could go cruising and cottaging cos hetero women were doing it then we'd be doing it too.

Not a wind up just an interesting, albeit very out dated and probably proven to be wrong view.

Brighton does have the second highest suicide rate in the country AND

"In the most extensive study of its kind, researchers found that urban gay men are at least three times more likely than heterosexual men to have planned suicide"

So if the gay community are more suicidal and suicide is the result of depression and depression these days is classes as an illness , does the argument not have some legs....????????????????

Suicidal tendencies / actual suicides in gay teenagers are generally believed to be brought on by bullying and social isolation. I've not seen any similar research for adult ones, but the one for teenagers was in AXM in mid 2007. I'd suspect theres very similar reasons...

true - i did think that may be a reason....but these days especially in Brighton, do the Gay community really get bullied and socially excluded to the extent the majority of suicides can be put down to this?

hmmm I should ask a gay guy I know about that. When was the last time I saw him, a little while back

oh yes, in a chip shop. His face was all battered and bruised after a group of good old lads kicked his head in a few days before cos he is gay.

We are lucky Brighton is such a tolerant place.

I once saw a magazine for bi-sexuals called "Anything that moves". Made me chuckle.

I have no problem with homosexuality apart from the fact that Gay men seem unable to laugh at themselves. I personally think it should be funny to see two fully grown men walking down the road holding hands or in bed like Bert and Ernie but you can't laugh can you? Oh well, it's back to laughing at retards.

The "gayer" the city the worse the homophobic element will be. Theres definately a higher numerical figure for homophobic assaults in Brighton and Manchester than the UK as a whole but that only takes in to account volume of the overall population, obviously...
