Because it was a strange thing to mention anti-English sentiment at Millwall?

What is your problem Mr f***ing Picky?

I was making the point that the times I have been to Cardiff ( and Swansea and Wrexam for that matter) we have been subject to anti English shite and targetted by hooligans because we were English, not by which team we support. That is a fact!

I apologise most profusely that my use of the language did not convey what I was trying to get at.

happy now...

To whichever twat started this thread.

No-one is asking for justification of any sort from anyone.

I was, and indeed am, genuinely interested to see how many people did not go to Cardiff because of the reputation for trouble etc.

For the record I was not intending to go myself for a number of reasons completely unrelated to their reputation - I've been several times before.

But lupon eaving the house with my daughter around 12:30 headed for the fresh air of Ashton Court, she promptly fell asleep. Knowing she would not wake up for an hour and a half or so, I decided to drive over to Cardiff and see if she wanted to go. So at about 2pm when she opened her eyes I asked her "Do you want to see the Seagulls?" She answered in the affirmative, so we used the lavatories in the nearby Asda, bought a sarnie for lunch, and drove to Ninian Park.

Obviously like most there, I wish I hadn't bothered such was the performance.

Fair enough.

It came across like you were criticising those who did not go.

Mainly because this was an option:

'I was there for the BIG one (Spurs) - the boys let me down then so I'm boycitting away games now'

No problem Mr Cheerful. None at all. Honestly.

I didn't go because of my concerns over the possibility of violence and abusive behaviour from the minority of Cardiff fans who heap shame on their club and their country.

I am a decent person, so is my wife, and I simply won't put myself in a situation that may involve the frankly subhuman antics of those arseholes.

Attacking children, spitting at women, throwing all manner of items, get real, what decent person wants to be caught up in that.

And before anyone says my choice is giving into them, no it isn't, I think that by boycotting such situations can have a positive impact.

Imagine the bean counters at Cardiff if no-one ever bought any away fans, I bet if that happened they'd soon have a word with the old bill and get rid of the scum. If people keep going, then they'll just count the money.

It would appear that you either haven't read or believed any of the reports from the Albion fans who travelled to Ninian Park on Saturday. Which is a shame.

Be honest Phil, it wouldn't really matter what the club did, you'd never travel to Cardiff anyway, would you?

I have to say of all my visits to Ninian Park, Saturday was one of the calmest. The Cottage on St Mary's Street has had a refit, but the beer was still good, not impressed that it is now a no smoking pub.

The taxi driver did the usual trick of dropping us at the Ninian Park pub, rather than outside the ground, but this time the walk was not too bad. Even in the ground it was not all that hostile. The seats to our left were not filled with Cardiff's boys this time, just a few kids, who though giving a bit of lip were never a problem.

When we left the ground, this to me was the only possible trouble area, as home fans can still get to you. There were a few characters in their blueberry milling around and we did get clocked by a few, with one coming up to us and saying we should not have bothered coming, but once clear of the ground, I did not feel the need to leg it back to the station, which in 2001 was very much the case.

So well done to the Football Club for doing something to clear the problem up.

This sums it up very well.

I hope this thread can be bounced just before we play at Ninian Park again next season. The reality is that this is 2005 and every ground in the Football League is safe.

The atmosphere was a lot better than at say, for example, the skirmishes at West Ham this season where I saw many parents leave with kids with half an hour to go.

Of course, it helped that we handed Cardiff the game, but it was really only one of ours who was desperate to get chucked out that woke up their thicko kids with about 15 minutes to go. Without that, the game would have been very quiet and totally non-eventful.

Sure, we're not quite at the stage where we can ressurect the Millwall chant of "you're not scary any more" but I would happily in future do a Bozza and take my own 2-year-old daughter to Ninian without much qualms.

Uncle Buck was heard to say that we missed Charlie Oatway on Saturday and that LI was his favourite poster on NSC.

(The 2nd bit of that may be made up)

.....because I spent the best part of 10 years in the late 70's and early 80's dodging and weaving round various and numerous away grounds, including several trips to Ninian Park, and I don't want to get a repeat of the treatment we often got then that you still get now in Cardiff.

NB: I only live 40 mins from there too.

Sorry, but you're wrong there. As has been said above many times by those who were there, it's not intimidating at all now. No worse than any other ground we've visited this season.

I, too, travelled to many scary places in the 70s and 80s and it just doesn't compare. That was 30 odd years ago FFS.

In all fairness our previous visit there in 2001 was not a pleasant day out, however it was much calmer this time.

I made my decision based on the last time we played Cardiff at Ninina Park when it was quite unpleasant. I believe the reports here are true and that the place has improved, as so many have said, and I will certainly consider going next time we play.

As I said, I made my decision based on past experience, I am delighted to hear that the problem is being dealt with, when we next play, who knows, we might even be able to meet up the the ledgendary Laughing Bluebird for a pint before the game.

I am a regular away attendee and I would really have liked to make the trip on Saturday, if what you say is true, and many on here say it is, I'l be there next time we play.

All the best for the rest of the season, a fiver says we finish above you! I just hope that is at least 4 places off the bottom for us (and you I guess)

I went had too much to drink and can't remember half the game.
Didn't see or here of any trouble and despite my intoxicated state seemed like a typical away game.
