I have been to Millwall every game we have played them since 1970's and although it was bad quite a few times, I have never encountered the anti English virtreol that comes out of Cardiff.

No anti-English vitriol at Millwall? Imagine that.....

you took that out of context. That is not what I was getting at and you know it

Where's is the"i went to the last game there and had coins/urine thrown at me by the apprentice hooligans of 12years and under." option?

:censored:

It may be better now but two prevoius visits (like that mention above) ment that creosoting the garden fence was a better (and safer) option. Will be going to Stoke though.

I have to say of all my visits to Ninian Park, Saturday was one of the calmest. The Cottage on St Mary's Street has had a refit, but the beer was still good, not impressed that it is now a no smoking pub.

The taxi driver did the usual trick of dropping us at the Ninian Park pub, rather than outside the ground, but this time the walk was not too bad. Even in the ground it was not all that hostile. The seats to our left were not filled with Cardiff's boys this time, just a few kids, who though giving a bit of lip were never a problem.

When we left the ground, this to me was the only possible trouble area, as home fans can still get to you. There were a few characters in their blueberry milling around and we did get clocked by a few, with one coming up to us and saying we should not have bothered coming, but once clear of the ground, I did not feel the need to leg it back to the station, which in 2001 was very much the case.

So well done to the Football Club for doing something to clear the problem up.

We had to walk about 15 minutes back to the car and it was fine, not a hint of trouble or anything that looked like trouble. Not sure how much this was down to the police though as we hardly saw any to be honest.

I wasn't allowed to play Spohie Ellis Bextor on the way out in the car though.

I hadn't been to Ninian Park before Saturday, but going by what I read on here, I knew trouble could be expected. Sure enough, I narrowly extricated myself from a potential mugging on the way to the ground. :nono: Not nice, and I can see why people stay away.

Overall still a good day out though, and I look forward to visiting the new ground some time in the future.

I was going to go and then it all went wrong on Friday. The missus hijacked me for 'important' wedding plans. I didn't protest too much as I can keep that up my sleeve for other games that I would rather go to. (Stoke & Coventry immediately spring to mind)

To be honest I looked at Cardiff away at the start of the season and out of the 23 away trips ranked it in 23rd place. I cannot think of somewhere in this division I would rather go less.

The need for a heavy police presence outside the ground has diminished as a result of the CCTV cameras. The police used footage taken from those cameras to convict and ban a large number of loonies a few years ago. The upshot of that is that the old problem of groups of idiots waiting around outside the ground or in the car park for visiting fans to come out appears to have been almost solved. As I said in the build-up to the game, there has been no serious trouble of any sort either in or around Ninian Park for several seasons.

By several I take it you mean three?

I read what you said about that unfortunate incident yesterday, and I can honestly say that I've never heard of a similar thing happening before. I presume the youths involved were locals and not actually Cardiff fans? Both Canton and Grangetown are fairly rough areas, although there are worse in Cardiff.....

Yes. 2001/02 was the bad season, with four or five serious incidents, but there have been no real problems since the infamous Leeds game in January 2002, which really brought matters to a head.

The only incidents of any note since then were in February 2003, when a group of about 50 or so Barnsley fans suddenly started going beserk in the away end a few minutes before the end of the game (one of the strangest things I've ever seen happen at NP), and at the West Ham midweek cup game last season when a small number of Hammers fans were fighting with the police in the ground at half time. There were apparently a few skirmishes outside after that one.

Correct, they weren't football fans. They actually seemed to think we were police for some reason. Just our back luck I guess...
