Hello there Seagulls,

I'm hoping one or two of you would be willing to answer a few questions ahead of your trip up to Hillsborough next weekend?

A few non taxing questions about your club, expectations, memories of games v Wednesday etc...

If you wouldn't mind please drop me a mail

admin@owlsonline.com

And I'll throw the questions your way.

Regards

Three games stand out for me. The 1st in 1976ish, an end of season evening game at the Goldstone. The crowd must have been around 30,000. We needed to win to get promotion to the second division. Eric Potts scored for Wednesday but we went on to win reasonably comfortably and get promoted. Potts joined us the next season and became a super sub, his piece de resistance being two injury time goals against Sunderland (?) to give us a 2-1 win.

The next game is an obvious one, the Jimmy Case cracker Highbury FA Cup Semi-Final. Few days as an Albion fan have been better.

I also remember getting tonked at the Goldstone by Wednesday early in the season the next time we played them, they were a club on the up and we were one on the decline. Could have been the early days of Jack Charlton?

2002/2003 season, away at Wednesday, we were 1-0 up through Gary Hart and Kuqi equalised in the last minute! I was only 12, and my dad had promised to buy me a portable CD player (and thats only 8 years ago!!) after the game if we won! :(
Loved the ground though

I don't know the date so perhaps someone can help me out.

I remember us being totally outplayed by your lot down at the Goldsone ground. We lost 0-4 and David Hurst got a hattrick. It only one of the few times i actually enjoyed a defeat(if you can) You were a joy to watch that night.

Agreed. That was the season we made the play-offs I think, 1990/1. Lost 4nil at home to them and then got beat 6-1 away to Oldham but ended up a win away from the Premiership.

Under your skin.
I was a ball boy when Wednesday relegated us. I was right in front of their fans. I was so close to shouting f*** off and running away in tears.

Strangely remember this game well.
It was an evening game, fantastic atmosphere and we got tonked 4-0 although we didn't actually play that badly.
I was in the North Stand as usual and i seem to remember staying in the ground for a good 20 minutes after the game with a hefty contingent of fans remaining in the ground too singing constantly 'And now you're gonna believe us, we're gonna win the league,' non-stop it seemed for an absolute eternity.
It was very surreal but we must have known we were on the cusp of something that season as it was in fact the same season of the play-off final against Notts County.

That was 90/91 mate.
We finished 3rd in Div 2 behind West Ham and Oldham.

Anyhoo, thanks to all who have offered to answer questions, got a fair few replies.

I'l post the questions in here as well when I get the replies from the guys that responded, then I'll post the replies from here on our messageboard.

Cheers

I wasn't at the first game you mention Icy, but was at the other two. During the first half of the FA Cup game, my mate fainted and was helped by the St John Ambulance people.

The last game - I'm sure there were loads of Wednesday in the Lego Stand (it may have been all Wednesday?) - doing some sort of Sheffield War Dance. Or am I getting mixed up with another game?

...with 80 year old player (manager?) Trevor Francis giving an absolute master class. Trev was playing a different game to the other 21 on the pitch that night, one of the most impressive players I've had the fortune to watch live.

I'll second that. Wednesday taught us a footballing lesson that night, and John Sheridan was the stand out player from the division that year, even though Wednesday only finished third behind Oldham and West Ham. Think that was the year you beat Man U in the League Cup, wasn't it? Didn't Sheridan score the only goal from well outside the box?

My 1st trip to hillsborough was (I think) 75/76 and it was a 3-3 draw with neil Martin scoring 2 for us. I think it was the opening game of the season and Albion played in green.

It was a treat to go to a 'big club' and I stood on the open Kop. Wednesday had a big electronic scoreboard, an unusual site for div 3 back then, and some of the biggest cheers were for the updates as Blades lost 5-1 at Man Utd.

All my other trips to Hillsborough were rather dull.

I have a personal experience which I would love to get one back on you.

2006 we were both in the championship fighting relegation when you came down to Withdean. At the turnstiles I had to collect my ticket I ordered by phone 2 hours before the match. Obviously our club were unprepared as their was a massive queue, must have been 20 people at least, 10minutes into the match. As I managed to get to the front of the queue I hear a cry of Wednesday supporters in the far distance. Everyone in the queue cringes. We know you just had scored. But little did I know at the time it weas my all time favourite Gary Hart fumbling it.

Five minutes later I take my seat, shouting abuse at Scott Carson everytime he took his kick and than the moment our defence was breached, it was 2-0.

From then on I directed my abuse to Mark McGhee, our own manager who was directly in front of me, and as the final whistle blew out, was utterly dejected the Owls fans singing in jublilation, I would be lying if I didn't reply with a hand gesture.

I have a very hazy memory of this one too, can't remember all that much apart from the fact that we were utterly outclassed but I think we knew it and thus took it quite well. Would Danny Wilson have been playing for Wednesday at that point or am I imagining it?
