True.

And the composer of Sussex by the Sea, William Ward-Higgs, was born in Southport, Lancs. He lived 2 miles from Selhurst Park for many years, and departed this earth with cremation in West Norwood.

Now, Bwian, you were saying?

Sorry but I'm missing your point here.

Sussex by the Sea is our county's (unofficial anthem), it's our club's anthem and is about Sussex people regardless of the origin of its composer or where he lived and died. It is Sussex specific whereas Glad All Over is just some random pop song, by a group from Tottenham, adopted by the Croydon dwellers and I merely said that I don't know why they chose it because there is no connection whatsoever. Unless maybe 'Kid' Jensen played it on his show after coming out as a Palarse fan?

You can't compare the two.

Not quite. It's more like United fans taking exception to having You'll Never Walk Alone played before a game at Old Trafford.

Personally I think it's pretty gay that so many Albion fans are happy about our cheerleaders being made to dance to Palace's anthem. I'm all for lessening the HATRED between supporters, but this is just a little too public. You can't imagine the same happening at other clubs.

I'm sure it's just me being a miserable bugger though, and it is all for a good cause.

it may well be for charity and palarse may well do an admirable amount for REMF, but to play their anthem and have gullys girls dancing to it is wrong :wrong:

however if liverpool fans can take the teme from z-cars being played at anfield i can take this, just this once!

A whole lot of people here are way too young to know the song. Mind you, it's appropriate that Palace use an out of date tune, it rather describes Croydon in general.

Not offended by it, its just a really wanky song. Time for Palace to get a proper song, something like this:[yt]BVUTfA427EM[/yt]

Football club songs - in the minds of home supporters, at least - don't always need to relate to the local area.

Ours does, of course - yet another good reason why it's the best club anthem on the planet. [ If only we could work out how to sing it properly... ]

Now, anyone for Stoke City and Delilah?

Surely any Brighton fans who have been to Selhurst park will know Palace come out to it, it plays when they score and when the game finishes?

Doesn't that just drive you towards self-harming ?
Its widely accepted amongst most able-minded football fans that playing music when a goal is scored is probably the SHITTEST thing a football club can do (other than going bust twice).

If they EVER consider pulling that shit at Falmer when we score, I will be rallying our supporters and leading an armed assault on the press box (or wherever the announcer resides) with a view to smashing up the sound system.

?

The account I read on the internet says he is buried in Bersted near Bognor so one is wrong.

From the history of The Royal Sussex Regiment:

Mr William Ward–Higgs lived at Hollywood House in South Bersted, Bognor Regis, at the time of writing “Sussex by the Sea” a fact commemorated today by a plaque on the side of the house. Ward-Higgs's grave is in Bersted churchyard
