Sussex by the Sea has so so so so much history compared to some clubs 'anthems' - i'm proud we have this history...

This has nothing

Its only a song, We shouldn't hate something just because our rivals like it too, its kind of like saying you're a manchester united fan and you hate the Beatles because they are liverpudlian

Not quite. It's more like United fans taking exception to having You'll Never Walk Alone played before a game at Old Trafford.

Personally I think it's pretty gay that so many Albion fans are happy about our cheerleaders being made to dance to Palace's anthem. I'm all for lessening the HATRED between supporters, but this is just a little too public. You can't imagine the same happening at other clubs.

I'm sure it's just me being a miserable bugger though, and it is all for a good cause.

Only a handful of Albion fans will know that it's a Palace song.

And most of those only found out via this dance thing/poll thing.

It will largely pass without comment.

Surely any Brighton fans who have been to Selhurst park will know Palace come out to it, it plays when they score and when the game finishes?

I think the announcer on the day needs to give some background as to the meaning of it all as I fear the knuckledraggers may get restless.

Yeah, even the title of this thread is heading in that direction...

I don't know how the song came to be adopted by Palace because the Dave Clark Five were from Tottenham.
True.

And the composer of Sussex by the Sea, William Ward-Higgs, was born in Southport, Lancs. He lived 2 miles from Selhurst Park for many years, and departed this earth with cremation in West Norwood.

Now, Bwian, you were saying?

My 2 cents worth, the Palace fans play a huge part in the REMF and they deserve a gesture of grattitude from us. I don't have a problem with Glad All Over being pumped out at the Withdean because it's not to wind us up (well, it is. :lolol: ), but it's for a good cause.

Anyone remember when we won the Division Two title in 2002 and played the last game of the season at Port Vale?

At the end of the game, to kick off our celebrations, the Port Vale announcer very kindly read out the names of the Bournemouth team (presumably from a team list from their previous home game) and then played Glad All Over.

My, how we celebrated.

My recollection was that the first choon after the PV game was Queen's "We are the Champions" and Yaz's "The only way is up" also featured.

As a club that day I thought PV showed a lot of class and respect. Some of their fans were complete planks however, chasing isolated Albion fans all over the streets of delightful Burslem.

... and Martin Perry nearly got arrested, for the crime of invading the directors' car park in an Albion shirt.

A top day out.
