Or stupidity, perhaps.

No, it's called humanity.

Stupidity is not doing anything, and believing that's the right thing to do.

Brighton / Hove actually
Colonel Gaddaffi said at the time that if his regime failed there would be 2 million Africans knocking on the door of Europe. He provided employment for lots of people in Africa and was highly regarded around the world.
I can't remember now why we brought him down but it doesn't seem to have turned out well.

Yep, if it's not broke, don't fix it.

We offered to take in a family for a month. Obviously through the right channels, not just anyone knocking on the front door.
I understand that 12 refugees were allocated to Hastings council & Lewes got 12 also.
In Hastings the number of volunteers far exceeded the number of refugees & we weren't needed.
If they contact us again next year when the next 2000 come over then we'll consider offering again.

Good for you and the good people of Hastings.

Good man. I agree with the principle of letting refugees in but there is no way on this earth I'd let any in my house simply because I value my space and couldn't stand the thought of a bloke in his pyjamas having a piss in my bog at 3.00 am as I stagger my ageing bladder to the toilet.

As others have previously said, I wonder how many others have got the spare room ready? I'd wager you are the only one on this thread. Cracking stuff

You are in no position to call anyone "clueless"

this latest flood of migrants/refugees from Northern Africa , Afghanistan , Syria and Iraq represents an enormous problem for Europe , as soon as they landed on the Greek Islands they were fighting amongst themselves , the internet is awash with film of the upheaval caused as these people arrive in Europe and yet some people seem to think that they should be allowed in and that everything will be fine, which, in my opinion , in this instance , is clueless.....!!! There was a massive Arab community in Sydney when i lived there , they do not integrate , they do not want to integrate......that is a fact....!!

Bearing in mind migrants (I suspect you mean 'immigrants') - and these new arrivals are refugees - have made a net contribution to the Exchequer to the tune of over £5bn over the past 15 years, can you provide first-hand, empirical, peer-tested evidence that 'this latest round of migrants will have a derogatory effect like none seen before'...? I don't mean using third-person hearsay, internet fantasies, nor prejudicial half-truths.

Thanks.

i refer you to my reply above..

anyone hear how Yvette Cooper is getting on with the family she said she was going to take in? Havnt heard anything either from Bob Geldof or Stan Collymore who spouted outrage at the lack of help and pledged to take in people who are seeking refuge......perhaps they are quiet modest people who prefer keeping their intake quiet.

in actual fact how are all the thousands upon thousands of people getting on with all the asylum seekers/refugees they promised they were going to house.

shouldnt they be promoting to everyone the positives of their actions, they all seem to have gone very quiet for some odd reason.

All very 'right on' and 'hollier than thou' at the time eh to start spouting off about how we should all take them in if we have room!!
And all the dicks like Bennydick Cunterbatch telling all those who will listen how nasty our government is for not giving enough tax payers money to his liking.
Just don't seem to get why these people who seem to be on a constant lookout for any do gooding band wagon to jump on and have all this spare accommodation available haven't given it to homeless poor families from this country....or is that not a good enough cause????

I'm all for helping your fellow man.
But the UK has its problems, especially the poor sods in Cumbria.
Surely we should be concentrating on helping them first before having an open house / door policy where monies are going in the wrong direction?

Good for you and the good people of Hastings.

It did take long for the usual hypocrites to emerge. I have just got back from walking our dogs with the people of Hastings, and no one has heard of this. It might be the case, but obviously you needed to jump on to it, and be the expert on the situation here from your own location. How many have you got? I know - you would desperately want to take some, but you just don't have the room, it is so sad. But, hey ho, lets look at others.

. I have just got back from walking our dogs with the people of Hastings.

I lived in Ancona I'm Italy for a while and on a Saturday afternoon many people went for a walk down the Main Street to socialise and hang out. Is this dog walking thing similar?

Are you suggesting that because you and your dogging friends don't know about it then the poster I replied to us lying? This seems a tad arrogant unless of course your walk did involve 'the people of Hastings' in which case maybe you didn't get round to asking everybody.

I think until I see more conclusive evidence I am going to give the fella the benefit of the doubt and stand by my comment.

I was not suggesting anything, and had you read the post properly, I quite clearly said that that the report could be true. But given the controversial nature of the move and the apparent altruistic motives of those who volunteered, I would have expected there to have been much publicity, and the 5 residents also to have heard/read about it. But nothing. It seems strange.
Arrogance? One could of course say exactly the same about you, and that surprise, surprise, you are going to believe the person who writes what you approve of, though you could not possibly be in a position to make any sort of authoritative comment. But, as ever it does not stop you.

To be honest i think you have gone off have cocked again old mate. However I think you are out of order trying to cast doubt on another posters honesty just to continue your petty feud with me (especially based on such flimsy evidence). I assume this is also the reason you took my comment as an attempt to be an authority on anything.

Your last sentence is spot on, I wrote 'good on you' in reply to a poster who had done something I approve of. Something every single poster on every single forum and social media sit does (there is even a button for it on most). I am not sure how you have managed to find so much about that to complain about. If you really get so riled up by this I would suggest that the ignore button is your friend.
