I agree with L.I, we have to give him time and dont get on his back, Lets not all turn into Hammers style fans and bring his confidence down like they have with Zamora. Currie didn't get rave reiviews here for his first games either. Trust in MM judgement, hes not done bad so far.

I've only seen him play the once against Watford but though he was rubbish. I dont think he's going to be darting round players in the box but if he can hold the ball up which is proberbly what MM wants the maybe we should give him the benafit of the doubt and see how he settles in.

With the money the club has available he is all we can afford. Six games and no defeats with McCammon playing is fine by me.

True that we looked much better when OGH came on, However, we also changed the entire shape of the team at that point to be more attack-minded, so it's not really a fair comparison.

I don't think that MM took McCammon off because of the cross. More likely he was giving it 5 mins with the tried and tested system, but when Leeds made a good start again it confirmed his plan to switch tactics.

Wasn't the BIg Man's best game, but those who just have to have a whipping boy get on my nerves. What do you expect for nothing? He'll run himself into the ground all day, chuck himself at everything, create goals for the rest of the team by holding the ball up, win far more flicks than Virgo and, generally, play as if he's very happy to wear our shirt. Give him a break.

Good post mate.

He ain't gonna get 15 goals a season, but he adds something to the team. At the moment, I'm happy with that.

I wonder how many of the people knocking McGammon also knocked Butters and Currie when they first arrived? Both Butters and Currie went on to make most of us eat our words with some terrific performances. Let's hope that McGammon does likewise. I've got a feeling that he will come good for us, so let's not write him off yet.

Butters came good shortly after he was put up for sale on ebay. I wonder if any Donkey santuaries are looking for residents?

Right now McGammon is not match fit so a little latitude is needed here.

As has been said earlier in this thread McGhee as the knck of not only bringing the best out of players he also seems to make astute signing on a very limited budget, Currie being the classic example. Here was a player discarded by a team heading into League 2 who looked like a donkey. Wrong !

The difference is, Currie was Wycombe's player of the year before he signed for us. McCammon has ALWAYS been shit - ask any Millwall or Brentford fan. Give him all the chances you want, he's not gonna turn into Thierry Henry one day. Talk about blind optimism.

Fot nothing - Blackwell, Rodger, Roger, Currie, Morgan, Kuipers, Roberts, Butters, Steele there are more but you get the picture

This post sums up the mindset of a species of Albion fan who is in total denial about what we are, which is a club whose current natural home is the lower reaches of the Championship and upper reaches of League 1. These "Premiership wannabees" just measure everything they see on a football pitch by the standard of the Sky Sports Premiership hype. It's no wonder that they moan about anything and everything, it just OFFENDS them that we're not playing with and like Arsenal every week.

Thierry Henry? What planet are you on? Poor old Big Mac is a limited player who can do a few things well and a few things badly, but the few things he does well will help us to stay in the Championship for another season. But yes, you're spot on, we're not heading to the Premiership with him to compete with the likes of Thierry Henry :jester:

The difference with McCammon and Currie is that Darren's first game was dodgy but then he became quality straight away after that, so in effect only had one poor game for us. McCammon on the other hand has shown very little since he has arrived and there appears to be no potential for improvement either.

For this reason I would rather we spent out meagre money elsewhere. As I have said on my match report thread Virgo actually plays better up-front than McCammon and Adam can be used in that role until we find someone better. Especially as (not wanting to count chickens) we should survive this season and we can address the "big target man" situation in the summer.

Albion & England forever.

Virgo was superb in defence though, and made crucial tackles in the first half. With the loss of DC, we need him at the back.

Get off McCammon's back, show him some support and he may get us a goal or two by the end of the season. No decent player is likely to want to come to the Albion with the wages we pay. It's a shame we did not strike a deal with Sheffield United though when DC went there for the loan of Luke Beckett, 4 goals already for Huddersfield in his loan spell!

Currie was criticised well after the first game. I remember so many people slating him!

McCammon shown some good signs which indicate potential - such as when he runs with the ball and scares the shit out of defenders.

Granted he hasn't be especially good but neither has he been especially bad.

It amazes me that to some people, a player is either brilliant or shit. At least you can't accuse them of changing their minds( if they have them).

Currie did get stick, although not from me as I do prefer to give players time. McCammon has had long enough to show he can offer something but he cannot. I do not think he scares the shit out of defenders when running with the ball but he sure as hell scares the shit out of me.

I know Virgo is good in defence but so is Hinshelwood & Butters and they can cope. No one can deny that when Virgo plays up-front he is better than McCammon.

Perhaps it is just my loathing of the loan system then which fuels my bias.

Albion & England forever.
