Are you serious?

Of course there will be.

I'm not a fan of the royals as such but even I had to pull over driving home to have a bit of tears.

The Queen was the main character in this and head of the whole thing.

This is history being made.

Diana was a bit part in the story.

This.

If people want to be very sad and show their respect, it's a free world (well .... outside of Russia and China).

You're probably right.

Not sad as didn’t know her .

That’s life isn’t it . 96 years old so a great innings to be celebrated .

Life is special and it’s the only one you got

Does anyone know what the protocol is now?

Normally it would be London Bridge, but as she died in Scotland, Operation Unicorn came into it. That includes lying in state in Holyrood Castle, before returning to London by train to lay in state there.
A National Day of mourning and then the funeral arrangements.

Thank you Ma’am for 70 years of service to this country, even up to Tuesday. You have served us faithfully and diligently.

God save the King.

Perfectly summed up for me :

Sean Coughlan
Royal correspondent

Even though it was inevitable that something like this would eventually happen, it still has the power to shock when it actually does.

For many people in the UK, the Queen has been a reassuring symbol of certainty and continuity throughout their lifetime.

She was a figure of immense global stature, one of the most instantly recognisable people on the planet.

This is a historic moment and the end of an era, the like of which few of us will have seen before, with her reign stretching back across so many decades.

There will be an emotional jolt, and for many a profound sense of loss.

She was part of the fabric of national life, a monarch who gave many a sense of stability and constancy.

RIP, not a huge royalist but this has taken me back to January when I lost my mum who would have been devastated

PM says crown passes to King Charles III. God save the King.

Yes, although he may not choose to be known as Charles. He can use any of his other names.

What does national mourning mean in practice?

It used to mean all theatres, cinemas etc closed but things aren’t as strict now. It might happen for one night but it used to be until the funeral.
All flags to be flown at half mast.

Not a royalist but recognise what a great statesman she was and feel sympathy for those who have lost a mum, grandma , great grandma and indeed her wider family of citizens who feel upset by by her passing.

God rest her. An extraordinary lady who managed to touch so many lives and has left so many with enduring memories. RIP Your Majesty.
