Before decimalisation, the coins in your pocket could have five royal heads among them (I'm not sure if there were any Edward VIII coins minted, but at most they were very rare). Now, for the first time for most of the population, coins will have two different heads on them. Most people will never have used stamps with a different monarch's head on either - and the few of us who can remember when the King died, we were probably too young to be singing 'God Save the King' - that will feel very strange.

Met her at Buck House 20 odd years ago, was wheeling in my late Father-in-Law (Chair of Horsham District Council but was suffering terminal cancer) to a BH Garden Party.
She was charming but distant, I wonder how many tens of thousands she had to meet over her career?

First of all RIP. A family of human beings has just lost its matriarch. That's very sad.
And there are people in this country who are very attached to the Royals who are hurting and I think it's thoroughly disrespectful to hurt those people's feelings, especially as many will be people who served their country. So to all of you who fit into this category, my sincere condolences.
I have always regarded the Monarchy as the least worst option. I've been consistent on that on here and in life. But this is a woman who worked every day of her life for 70 plus years. Yes, she had the finest palaces and rooms to relax in afterwards, but she wasn't off duty for even a day. I reckon I've had more fun in my 50 years than she had in her 96.
I thoroughly respect that service and and I thoroughly understand the country's loss. But hopefully there will come a day soon where reform is possible without hysteria and the likes of Andrew have to make their own way.
