Me too. Same with the Bond Olympic thing. Literally sat open-mouthed when it was obviously her………remember saying to Mrs D ‘haha, brilliant, but imagine if they actually got Her Maj to be in this’…….then she turned round……..

Exactly the same with us - we thought it was going to be James Corden in drag or something like that. Jaw dropped when it was actually her.

Such a wonderful woman.

Many marvellous and deserved tributes flowing in, lovely messages from Donald Trump, Barack Obama and Joe Biden, wonderful sentiments from President Macron of France too, despite having been insulted by our soon to be Prime Minister. EU flags have also been lowered to half mast.

Such a wonderful woman.

It was a genuine ‘WTF’ moment for me and won’t forget it………as you say, expected maybe Corden or Lily Savage. Remarkable.

Politely and strongly disagree! Idiotic sentence imo.

I agree. But If we are going to have a monarch, the country deserves the best sort human. She was exactly that. Kings and Queens aren’t normally like Liz though. We’ll be finding that out sooner rather than later that she was quite unique.

And I respect anyone who disagrees in that manner. We are all different, and we all have different views.

We have a Government who couldn't care less about the country and only themselves, multiple huge businesses who couldn't care less about the country and only themselves, and a now deceased Queen who devoted her entire life to serving her country, flawlessly.

An amazingly dedicated and regal woman of her word, irreplaceable

Regardless of whether you are a monarchist or a republican, or even completely indifferent, she was a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother when she passed. She also abided by the rules… which you can’t say about everyone.

My husband and I both feel that this has hit us harder than we thought it was going to. We're both in our thirties, so she was not only a constant presence through our lives but those of our parents as well.

I think this thread demonstrates that, whatever people's views of the monarchy as an institution, there was and is a lot of respect for her as a person.

Whatever happens from here on, yesterday really felt like the end of an era in our country's history - all of those events and occasions where we'd see her, seeing a different face on currency and stamps, it will all just feel strange and different. When the announcement talked about the King and Queen Consort, it took me a second to realise who those people are, as I've never known a King.

One thing I truly loved was her sense of humour and willingness to have fun - the Paddington bit at the Jubilee and James Bond at the Olympics being the two obvious examples.

RIP Ma'am, and thank you.
