Sorry to be a bit negative, but out of all the things we really need (and there are many) a new goalkeeper is not one of them, now that Kuipers is back. I think McGhee will play Henderson and Kuipers will (rightly) ask for a transfer. We will then be back where we started. For me Kuipers is a match saver.

Surely we are much more likely to sign a striker on loan and therefore the transfer costs and agents fees mean nothing towards that?!

It's only Hendo's wages we should be concerned with then.

Whilst FDM is an excellent shot stopper, his distribution is slow and his kicking accuracy is appaling.

Spot on mate.

No-one is denying that FDM is great at pulling off saves, but he never instructs the defence. All I ever hear him shout is 'AWAY'. I never hear him directing the defence.

His kicking was better against leeds, but he never releases the ball quickly enough to sping counter attacks. Henderson does.

Granted the Henderson has not dealt brilliantly with a couple of direct blasts at him, but as chappers points out, these will be worked out by Keeley. FDM will never be a confident kicker, not dreat at distgribution. He's had years to work on this, and it's just not part of his game.

I would expect him to be gone before the start of next season.

That is ludicrous. Simply wrong.

He also shouts "FORWARD". :jester:

Priority should always be with signing quality players. We ahve the opportunity to and it should be taken. We should not be in the business of signing players just because they play in a certain position, not even at this time. I'd rather we signed a keeper of proven quality (that we've seen) than a striker that might not be up to standard.

Possibly the most sensible post you've ever made.

I do think this is good news. I think that FDM is good but I worry about his fitness and whether he will be available all the time. I think Henderson is also quality and will get better. With these 2 it's a win win for us

IMHO as soon as Henderson signs the deal with Rushden will go ahead for MK and we will use Flo until the end of season and we will either use Sullivan or bring in another keeper during the summer ready for next year.

Rushden are signing Barnet keeper Scoot Tynan, so I doubt they'll want to FDM as well.

I may be wrong, but I am sure that agents over here are paid by a percentage of the player's salary. Same for entertainment figures and the PGA.
The agent [for agent, read parasite] is hired by the player. Why should the club have to pay the commission?

Very true. Good shot-stoppers aren't enough at this level or above - they may excel at lower levels, but distribution is a huge part of the game now. Look at any top keeper and you'll see them land their kicks on their target's head virtually every time - Kuipers can't match that.

[B. I know for a fact that when managers are looking to sign keepers and have them scouted, the question of distribution and accuracy ranks very high on the list of questions, as does command of the area and the ability to marshall the defence. (Managers expect goalies to be able to dive around and save shots) [/B]

I once said to MA about MK having a great game and stopping certain goals his answer to me 'that is what I pay him for if he couldnt do that he would be out on his ear'. Really sums up the situation about diving around the box.

Henderson is a great signing, however it probably means Kuipers will want to leave. I can't see McGhee leaving Kuipers in while Henderson is available. Still Sullivan looked good last night and would be a good option for cover if Kuipers did leave. Lets hope we can just sign a couple more players before the window closes.

Why would Kuipers want to leave. he didn't want to leave when he was clearly No.2 when Roberts was around and I'd be suprised if MM rated him below Henderson, straight away. It will just come down to whose playing well in the position

I would be astounded if Chaignaeu hangs around after thisseason. He is only on a s eas's loan to gain experience and it doesn't seem as tho we are keen to take him. So when he goes in the summer that leaves us with TWo QUALITY keepers. Which is what we need.
