Is it really that good.

Would it not be one of those things you buy and after a few days your eyes adjust to the new quality of the screen and wonder why the hell you spent the money?

Picture quality is good enough anyway.

its good but if you have Sky i think you have to pay an extra £20 or so a month to view the HD channels, IMHO a rip off at the moment, im waiting until the price comes down.

£300 for a new Sky box and £10 an extra a month. Anyone buying it now is getting MUGGED right off. Avoid until after the World Cup when prices will start to plummett.

It really is another excuse for the companies to fleece you of your cash, I fail to see how the enjoyment of TV Football can really be enhanced by a slightly improved picture.

Also the demos I saw were all cartoons, which are far easier to improve in terms of definition and look far more impressive than Film.

Which is fine if you watch lots of Cartoons, I will wait to see an HD normal film demo before passing judgement but Im not convinced.

Also, the SKy ad that promoted HD services has a really impressive little display of how it will look going on, but hang on a minute, it looks really good but its on my non HD sky box!!!!

Ive already got an HD tv but Im waiting till the geeks have paid over the odds then Ill pick it up when its cheaper.

Sorry, I'm a bit out of the loop on this: how long will it be until they're broadcasting free-to-air telly in high-definition? Presumably that will be digital-only.

That looks like a steal! Is there any reason why I shouldn't purchase that TV now??

I'm seriously thinking about taking out a HD subscription. I want to upgrade to Skyplus anyway and my £300 for the HD box would include that, so after that one-off cost, it would be only an extra tenner a month.

I've ordered my new HD telly for the World Cup, so might as well go the whole hog as I can't get Freeview in my area anyway.

HDTV's being driven by two things mainly:

- In the US, the dreadful quality of their NTSC system. IT is a quantum leap forward compared to that, but less of an improvement on our PAL system.

- The proliferation of bigger and bigger LCD TVs. A 'normal' picture looks absolutely dreadful on them compared to the old CRT sets. HDTV brings it up to a much better standard.

I won't be buying for quite a while - certainly until the day a monthly subscription costs next to nothing. I tend to think the first post is right - once you get used to it, you'll barely notice the difference. It's largely a good earner - a new way to sell us more stuff we don't really neeed.
