I have just bought an HD ready Samsung 32" LCD TV and the picture quality on sky digital is absolutely fantastic, and will be even better with HD, but i will not be getting it just yet for these reasons:

1) The price of the box will drop after the world cup finishes

2) Hopefully they will do away with the £10 a month fee as they did with sky+

3) There are going to be inevitable problems with the firmware on the first batches, there always is

4) not many HD channels at the moment

So i will wait til later in the year, but i am ready.

BRING IT ON.

I'm seriously thinking about taking out a HD subscription. I want to upgrade to Skyplus anyway and my £300 for the HD box would include that, so after that one-off cost, it would be only an extra tenner a month.

I've ordered my new HD telly for the World Cup, so might as well go the whole hog as I can't get Freeview in my area anyway.

Cautious warning if you are thinking of getting Hd for the world cup, the connection dates are already getting towards the last week of June, so hurry!

Only via satellite and cable.

Many people seem to think that Freeview ('digital TV') will carry HD broadcasts.

It won't (until at least 2009, maybe 2012). The required bandwidth is too high.

So, would the world cup HD broadcasts from the BBC be available on my current standard Sky subscription? ???

No, I guess, because you probably wont be able to access the channels like you cant access the sky hd channels

You could buy a tracking satellite dish and non-Sky HD box to pick-up other services broadcasting the World Cup in HD - plus 'interesting' channels from around Europe.

I've seen HD in Dixons, and while its obviously a great picture, I'm not convinced that after half an hour in my own home it won't look pretty much the same as I remember normal TV. Specially as it won't be smack bang next to a 'normal' TV for me to make an instant direct comparison. I'm already watching TV via a digital satellite broadcast with a perfect reception, and DVD's still look absolutelty MINT to me, so how much better can HD really be ? I'd probably be used to it after half an hour and just take it for granted. Except for the hole in my bank account every month thereafter, I'll forget I've even got it.

Naah, let the boys have their toys. I'll be in the market for a monstrous LCD TV some time within the next year or so, so hopefully all this HD gubbins will drive the price down for the normal outdated stuff.

"Oooh look at that picture. Its like looking out of a window".
Oh do f*** off.
