I realise this may be ther single worst/most naive question ever asked on NSC....but if I did buy in the minimum £750 what sort of return would I expect to see in the 'short term'. When people say they would do it for short term gains I have literally no idea about the length of time they mean or the amount they expect to gain in said time.

Sorry...

But I wouldn't expect much from a highly saturated market with lots of established players and with competition from e-mail etc.

people keep saying this, but ignore RM have pushed parcel delivery and growing that side. they've an established distribution chain and trusted brand, they are winning back contracts on quality of service. forget letters, RM is becoming the logisitcs arm of Amazon et al.

Not necessarily.

If you take West Sussex, there are depots at:-

Arundel, Littlehampton, Goring, Worthing, Lancing, Shoreham & Hove.
Not to mention all the 'little' offices between the central hub at Gatwick, and the South Downs.

RM owns a lot of land in decent locations, much of which is no longer fit for purpose, now we are driving vans.

How about adding Portslade to that list!

I agree. When you think about it, they have the ability to deliver 'next day' to over 99% of UK addresses! I can't imagine that all these other 'players' can manage that. Of course the unions want to protect jobs etc., but they don't want to be throwing away the opportunity to remain the dominant force in the industry. That's a bit like cutting off their nose to spite their face, innit ???

The problem with the business is we are duty bound to deliver to ALL of the UK every day, the final mile, and that's costly.

RM has lost a shed load of business because the competition can drive into, lets say Amazon, collect a pooh load of stuff and the drop it off at a RM hub, leaving us to do the 'final mile'.
Check your post over the next week, none will be stamped much will be TNT, some other carrier or 'M' (the lowest of the low)

RM can't get close to competing for that business because it's carrying the cost of the final mile.

TNT are also trialing 'postal delivery' but again they are not bound to do everywhere.
They have cherry picked a few post codes of high population density, with large volumes of mail.

Theres no mention of the pricing yet

Suggestions are that the share price will be £2.60 to £3.30. The lower price is being favoured by the Government to provide an instant 15 - 20% profit for investors.

My main concern is it's inefficiency as a business. I have just watched pat's special delivery service. The amount of vehicles used / time taken to deliver something was obscene

Are you allowed to take your cat with you or does Health and Safety decree that he has to stay at home?

They will be none of that delivering pressies by chopper just because its the lads birthday lf the shareholders are gonna get a 6% yield. I sense changes are afoot in Greendale.

I immediately thought of the scene in Apocalypse Now where the Air Cavalry helicopters swoop in and blast out "Ride Of The Valkyries" from their speakers and you screaming "I love the smell of envelopes in the morning"

No but I did once find myself delivering my home round on New Years Eve.
I opted to do it with a big trolley popped home on the way through, picked up the dogs, tied them to the trolley, and off we went!!

Let's have a think. Do I post letters or write emails? Do I do my banking online or pay extra for a bill to be posted? If I need something delivered I pay for special delivery.

I won't be buying shares because I don't use the post service. I honestly don't think it's a modern business.
