Had to get this off my Chest after Sunday Poyet and his Obsession with Barnes

Maybe Gus watches a different player to me when Barnes is on the Pitch, However IMHO Barnes should not be in the reserves let alone the 1st team or Bench.

I would love to know what he tells Barnes to do when he enters the pitch, because I just can’t see that Gus tells him to Look Lazy, Disinterested, and moan at every opportunity!!

The Player offers us NOTHING other than being able to take a penalty.

I for one and Im sure Im not on my own, question how he manages to play week in and week out. What is the point in his position? He’s either giving away free kicks in our half or looking like he out for a stroll in the opponents half.

OK So Im on a Roll, if Gus was really intending to go for broke on when he made the subs on Sunday, why oh why did he not play CMS and Bertie Vokes together and take Barnes off?. Why play our potential gem at left back for the last half hour. Although Noone is outstanding or has been this season to be fair he could not tackle a decent meal let alone the Liverpool front line.

At the end of the day Poyet knows more than me BUT FFS Barnes is cr*p!!!!!

I personally thought Barnes had one of his better games. He held the ball up pretty well when required and won quite a few free kicks. Was often tracking back to defend too.

He's playing out of position quite a bit at the moment it seems. I'm not a huge Barnes fan, but I think he does put a shift in when required.

If you couldn't see how much work Barnes was doing in the first half, you couldn't have been watching the game properly.
I can see the point about CMS and Vokes playing together when the subs were made.
Sadly a lot of BHA fans need to have a hate figure ....usually Barnes or Harley.

Football ,as ever, is a game of opinions and is better for it.

I'll concede that Barnes (and most others) didn't play that well on Sunday; but in my opinion he has improved a lot recently with his change in role. The lays off he makes are often quite clever and he is tracking back a lot more. Gus seems to have removed him from primary striking duties and sees him as more of a support player.

I don't think by any means he is the finished article, but I see improvement and welcome it. We also need to consider he is still quite young. That said; if we did scam the play offs and somehow go up this year, he'd be way out of his depth in the Premier league, but then so would half our team.

Good first half ..... Poor in the second.

However he wasn't alone in that.

Can't help feeling Barnes wouldn't be getting half as much shit is he wasn't keeping CMS out of the side.

For what it's worth I'd play him in a midfield 4 with Buckley, Bridcutt, Razak with CMS and Vokes up top

Luckily yes, Poyet does know more than you. Barnes has been doing really well lately linking midfield with the forwards. He's been far from lazy on the whole and has made some intelligent runs to keep defenders occupied. He has also deserved man of the match a few times recently but his efforts go largely unnoticed by match day sponsors.

I think Barnes has a lot of potential and he could develop into a top drawer player but I am a bit bemused about his actual role in the team right now.

I suspect he won't be getting as much game time for a while though .. imagine Razak will be a shoe in and that may be the signal for Gus to play Vokes/CMS together which must have been the intention (as with BBD) with one wide man that leaves little room for Barnes (Sparrow/Vicente/Dicker/Barnes) but that's not all bad for him ... he can continue to develop ... but I do think he's shaping up to be OK, certainly improving on beginning of season

Guy next to me in the pub thought Barnes was the worst player he'd ever seen in a Brighton shirt and was the player to shoulder most of the blame for our performance on Sunday, he was about 70 and a season ticket holder. Thank f*** I don't have to sit next to him at the Amex

I actually think that he is our most improved player so far this season. I certainly had reservations about his ability in the Championship, but he has got better and better of late. He certainly didn't look lazy against Liverpool. His new role is just another example of Gus making decisions and getting it right.

Glad you feel better. Ridiculous, ill informed and downright wrong post but if it makes you feel better... Unfortunately adds to the myth among our more ignorant support and if something gets said enough times it becomes a kind of 'truth' and filters down - there's always one player who becomes the easy target. At the millwall game, before Lua Lua's free kick the beavis & butthead-alike teenager in front of me hollered "don't let Barnes take it - ahuh, ahuh, ahuh, he, he, he", easily loud enough to be heard on the pitch. It really doesn't help
