Those of you saying Whing's not good enough have very short memories, once he is fully match fit again, he can more than hold his own at this level.

When will he show it because he hasnt for the past few seasons including the one when he, by some mystery, was voted Player of Ther Year. He was appalling and the cause of many goals as teams targeted him as the weak link.

Once Jimmy Mac is fit that will be the left back sorted all we need to do then is sort out the right back the best option s as they stand in order are , El Abd, Hoyte. Virgo Whing.

You really hate Whing, don't you. Fair enough, he was far from perfect last year. However, to say he didn't deserve the player of the year last season is ridiculous. He was our most consistent player over the whole season and brilliant in our late recovery. To be fair, if he turned into Dani Alves overnight you would still not rate him judging by your previous comments.

Whingy was one of a handful of players who played consistently giving it 100% , some couldn't give a toss last season which basically led to him being voted player of the season. At present he is nothing out of the ordinary and is in the same category as El Abd.

I'm not convinced Whing is good enough if we are trying to turn ourselves into potential challengers but he deserves a few more games to get match fit. Having said that McNulty looked classy on his return against Charlton even if he was off the pace and a bit suspect defending so I'm not sure even more games will help Whing's cause as I'm sure he's much nearer match fitness than McNulty.

Agree with most about Whing. He tries hard but he is not the quickest, ball control is at best average, and distribution is mainly a long ball. That write up makes him sound wore than he is but he is limited. However replacing Whing is as not as much a priority as buying two decent center backs, but ideally we need Whing to be second choice if we are to be challnging next year.

The problem is that he was voted player of the season for making soime last ditch tackles and having agression but the truth is that he caused most of the tackles by his poor positioning, poor distribution and being beaten out on the touchline.

Every team we played exploited him because they saw the weakness hence the vast majority of goals conceeded came from our opponents left wing.

Remember we are talking about building a team to join and hold their own in the championship not just avoid relegation.

Totally agree with you. Slade seriously messed up with our defence during the summer. Whing should have been offered a new contract, but he should have been told that he would be 2nd choice. Slade also missed out on covering LB position as well. How we laughed at the bookies for placing odds on us for relegation. Well they saw the defence, the same one that leaked goals like a sieve last year.

Hopefully Gus will solve those in Jan. But teams wont let go of their best players, unless ome over the top offer. Thats why Bloom doesn't like doing business in January, but he may have to in that area of the team.

Voltz was a good shout. We need some experience there. Gus will have a better view of what / who is available & through his contacts a much better ability to get up & coming players. In Gus we trust

Baker at Stockport is a very good shout, I was thinking that yesterday and then saw on iPlayer today he got ANOTHER cracking goal on Saturday. He could be long-term replacement for Nicky.
