Poyet nails the argument with a "you're last man in the last minute, do you bring the striker down or not" comment. Of course you do!

Also, the morons who phoned in afterwards showed their lack of knowledge of football with their comments about Poyet's managerial career. He was wanted as coach by Ramos at Real Madrid so I think he knows a bit more than them. He is also probably one of the best young managers in the game and anyone with even a bit of football knowledge outside the Premier League would know that, which obviously most of the people who rang in didn't have.

To be fair he hasnt done anything in management yet, he is an outstanding coach, which is what Ramos wanted him as.

Its a bit early to claim he is one of the best young managers out side the Premiership.

Totally agree with Gus, why is it any different to someone bringing down someone running through. The bloke got a red card and Ghana got a penalty. The fact they missed it is their fault. It's not cheating it's just football.

no but im distinguishing between blatant cheating and going down when contacts made! if brighton had been involved in either side of this debate i bet a lot of people commenting would change their tune

Fair point, the bloke who did it probably will get a bit of a hefty ban for it. Agreed though if it was England or Brighton everyone would be outraged.

Totally agree with Gus, I couldn't name 1 player that wouldn't of done what Suarez did! If that player stuck the penalty away no one would be talking bout the handball!

Nail on head. If a Brighton or England player was in the same situation, I'd be really pissed off if he DIDN'T stop it going in.

FIFA will never achieve their "Fair Play" objective. its football you will always see players bringing down other players to stop opposition attacks and potential goal scoring oppurtunities, i can think of scholes always taking a yellow to stop an advancing team, essien another and often our very own alan navarro. It's all about taking one for the team and i agree with Gus in this instance. Its diving which needs to be stamped out and punished.

Would have been a bit hard for him to be born the day Northern Ireland won the WC, seeing as they never have...

Bit harsh to expect Gus to pick up on an English v an Ulster accent, would you be able to distinguish a Paraguayan from a Peruvian accent?

If I'd lived and worked in Peru for a few years, I might be able to give it a stab.

Admittedly it is possible Gus was speaking in a more general manner knowing that the majority of Nolan's listeners are in England...

The Championship.
Why have people lost respect for Gus?

Not being funny Suarez got sent off and Ghana had a penalty to win the game and they missed it so UNLUCKY ! , just as Gus said.

Yeah, i think anyone would of done what Suarez done if they were in his position for England , Suarez got punished and sent off , luckily for him Ghana missed the penalty. I bet the radio presenter wouldn't be such a twat if Ghana scored even thought Suarez would still be cheating by handball .

Probably an interview request Gus should have turned down, although personally I find him much easier to understand than Nolan.

But what's our manager doing even THINKING about the World Cup, he should be on the phone to agents, managers, about players, devising ever more creative training routines for the most important pre-season in HISTORY...yes, even at midnight.

Danny Baker has just pointed out that everyone has gone totally quiet that the free kick awarded to Ghana that led to the handball was in fact a dive.

Was just what I was going to point out, so technically it was 1 cheat each. I'm glad Ghana didn't win and wish Uruguay all the best for the rest of the tournament.
We love you Gus!

"I've lost a lot of respect for someone I used to have a lot for. First of all, South Americans are known for cheating..."

Well Geoff from Milton Keynes, I don't really have a lot of respect for your city either, and I certainly don't think someone from MK wants to talk about cheating.

On top of this, I think Gus explained his reasons for thinking the way that he does extremely well, considering he isn't English and therefore it must have been very hard to try and find the right words. I for one agree with him entirely, and I wonder what the reaction of the country would have been had we won a quater final tie in such a manner. It really annoys me that people phoned in and claimed they had lost respect for Gus, and as for the presenter claiming he 'wasn't born' when England won the World Cup, and because of this wasn't willing to give an opinion on whether England cheated, was laughable, and showed him up for the joke he was.

Good on you, Gus.
