Way out west
At Ipswich we were beaten by a much stronger side, but Gus did not help things by opting for a strange 4-2-2-2 line-up with no wingers.

We have no one who can win the ball in the air from any of Caspar's long clearances - if we cannot play it from the back, and many teams no longer let us, there is no plan B.

To be honest, I think the only players we have that are definitely capable of playing high-end Championship football are Bridcutt, Vicente, CMS, Buckley, Barnes, Noone, Dunk and possibly Calderon.
The likes of Painter, Ankergren, Dicker, Sparrow even Greer just don't look good enough in my eyes.

Ferret has posted on here several times that the BBC uses Press Association stats which are notoriously wrong. I went to both too. I don't like blaming referees but on that occasion, the fact that the ref blew his whistle too soon for Painter's foul affected the rest of the game. Painter shouldn't have been sent off for 2 yellows and CMS won't let another shot like that go over the bar again this season 99 times out of 100 he would put it away. It was just one of those things but not a shambles as described.

FWIW - Official stats for those two games

Brighton 8 shots (2 on target) Leicester 20 (5 on target)

Brighton 7 shots (2 on target) Palace 15 (7 on target)

and my personal take on the Vicente comments - he is not in the side for his defensive abilities so he is not given too much responsibility there - hence Gus being satisifed with his contribution in that respect (deflects any criticism from people thinking he should have been inside his own penalty area when the goals went in)

Personally very happy to have Vicente as a luxury player. I'd suggest no place for Harley while Vicente is on the pitch then.

Not the real one
I would drop Dicker for Navarro. Give Navs the job of winning the ball and feeding Bridcutt. Bridcutt does a fair bit of ball winning himself. I'm not one for dropping Barnes, he scores and creates chances, he needs to push up next to CMS and let the likes of Noone and Vicente support them.
I think Vincelot has a bit more about him than Painter.

Agree entirely with that team and bench, and certainly with not dropping Barnes!

I far prefer Vincelot in midfield instead of Navs - he does the same job but with more energy. If that means Painter at LB, so be it, he's not having the best of times but he's not rubbish - all full-backs come up against flying wingers that put all but the very best on their backside. But the main point - Vincelot in an advanced midfield position was a massive part in our wins at Portsmouth and Cardiff and I'd like to see that formation again.

I dont want to see Navarro anywhere near the first XI as he is a liability in that he is too slow and cannot tackle well enough and in the games he has played has just stood about watching the players around him. Yes he made 1 good pass in 1 game but is that justification in playing him instead of Vincelot as the defensive midfielder, not in my eyes.
