Still though, what he has done is, I don’t think, bad enough for people to call for his head.

So technically, a lot of presenters actually work for a supplier of programmes rather than the broadcaster itself.

Presenters are also usually contracted on a series per series basis, so it would be case of not renewing or withdrawing rather than "dismissal" of a full time employee. The bar is lower and something like misbehaviour would often be in the contract.

So in terms of the "relationship" lets say YOU are the broadcaster, he's a freelancer working for a supplier of yours.

Now of course, the programme is beamed into your front room from the broadcaster and they have full responsibility for the content etc...

But the employer / employee relationship may be not what it seems. Like a lot of industries it's full of freelancers and worked effectively "subbed" out.

I believe he has had the good telling off etc but the arrogant man has not changed his ways. That’s what has cost him his career. He’s effectively already been sacked as you’ve hoped for.

Before some media type spanner spotted him (shouting at passers-by and giving them the bantz) and put him on R4 for a bit of ‘working class authenticity’ he was a fruit and veg man with a mouth way bigger than his brains - ‘Apples and pears, Apple and pears’.

Hopefully he goes back to green grocering and is not seen in public eye again. A profound and arrogant misogynist should really not be festering on the BBC. He should still have a career though, it’ll just mean that the next time he is looking for a new wife the third of his age on twitter, the ones seeking glamour and fortune will give him a wide berth, he’ll probably need to head off to the far east for his next replacement.

There’s alleged victims I’ll grant you, but there is also a huge 21st century bandwagon as well, which make the aforementioned baying mob.

Problem is, if he is guilty of anything he needs to be convicted in a court of law and not just the court of public opinion.

Slightly off topic, but perhaps relevant, has Russell Brand been charged by the CPS yet?
I think it’s much more straightforward than that, it’s about acceptable behaviour in the workplace which is being investigated. Termination of his contract may or may not be the result. He does not have to be found guilty in court to lose his job, just a balance of probabilities.
If evidence arises about criminal activity no doubt that will be referred to the police for consideration.
If the allegations have merit it would result in termination of employment in any other profession probably in the last 40 years, let alone now.

This whole circus reminds me of when I was 20 and worked in an NHS admin office in Eastbourne.

One of the senior managers in his late 50's was in charge of the typing pool that had about 30 women young and old. Virtually every Monday morning he would breeze in with the opening line " Morning ladies, hands up all those of you who had a bunk up at the weekend!" Much hilarity ensued and the usual response from the girls was " what about you Maurice? "

Different times and he went on to be one of the most respected Eastbourne mayors!

Talk about stereotyping tradesman, nowadays if someone on site harassed a passing female they would more likely get called out for it by the other lads and someone would apologise to the victim.
Times have changed.

I don’t think it’s banter, I think he’s been creepy and inappropriate by all accounts, and taken advantage of his position of authority to act like a prick in the workplace. I’m just not buying into the baying mob likening him to people who have committed very serious crimes, just because he a) has appeared on BBC shows and b) fits the “right” age, sexuality and gender profile.

Guy’s obviously a bellend, but social media is awash with outright libel calling him a rapist and other very serious allegations when his reported pattern of behaviour is not of a predatory sexual offender, but of a arrogant prat.

She says she was called to his dressing room on one occasion, to fix his bow tie for an after work event.

When she started fastening his bow tie, she says she noticed his trousers were "partially lowered". She did not see how this happened.

You must be joking. I took my daughter out in Shoreham last week (she's 28) and as we walked past one of the new developments being built a group of at least 5 builders gave her wolf whistles whilst I was with her. I'm not saying they're all like that but if you think it doesn't go on then you need to give your head a wobble.

If true, the bloke seems like a prize wally.

So far, I’m not convinced he’s a a sexual predator but more of a highly inappropriate idiot with no concern for the upset he causes women. But I believe more serious allegations are incoming.

Indeed but not really the point I was emphasising. It was more about how times have changed and more importantly at that stage he was a well known local politician before he became mayor. Imagine the damage to his career had that been today. He was very well liked in the work place and issues were never raised.

In essence it occurs to me today that in the work place there are two critical considerations you should make :

1) Read the room - know your colleagues and your workplace environment

2) Understand that times and attitudes have changed - you might not agree with them but accept it to be the case.
