I worked in the city for 30 years. Yes, much worse does happen (or at least did), doesn't make it right though. Also, the same coercion exists..... people in power getting away with it.

And men don’t speak up but just excuse it! Saying it happens all the time is excusing it.

I had to hear/adjudicate on one case of senior female offender v junior male complainant - when I walked through my findings and recommendation with the offender’s very senior (male, obviously) boss his first reaction was to grin and suggest the complainant was ‘lucky‘ because she was ‘fit and gagging for it‘ so ‘there’s surely no case against her’

Oh well, as usual I feel like the contrarian on NSC. I know a lot of people seem to dislike him, usually not explaining why, but I don’t mind him. Working class white bloke makes good. Always a target. His role on Masterchef is enthusiastic Everyman, there to ask the dumb questions that ordinary people want asked. I hope he survives this, whatever it is. I seem to be the only person who has no inkling of the allegations.

I don't really appreciate the sexist generalisation. I've had inappropriate comments from women colleagues (such as 'while you're down there'). I've not been personally offended, so I've not reported them. I certainly wouldn't try and excuse a man making similar comments, and would back up a victim if required.

Why haven’t you reported them? Another man may suffer because of it.

I presume you haven't worded that quite right. I trust there are some things a person could do which you would think are worthy of losing ones job?

A few reasons. For example: I do not believe other men will suffer. They didn't mean for me to hear their comment, and were horrified and apologetic when they realised I had. I don't feel that they objectify me or others, and believe they were just trying to make a 'funny comment' to a friend.

Each situation is different. I do not make comments like that at work, but I believe there are some cases where work colleagues who are friends can have genuine banter with no one offended. Obviously lines get crossed and I support anyone making a complaint when that happens.

I can actually understand the fear involved if you think you’re the only one, and taking on the TV celebrity (with doubtless an army of lawyers to make your life hell if you put a foot wrong). Once others express the same then it makes it much easier to come forward.

The important thing is that they do come forward, not when.

Actually I think the when is important too. The sooner it happens, the sooner a predator can be removed, and future victims spared.

Easier said than done when you're a young person just starting out on a career in the entertainment industry. You run the risk of your career being over before it's barely begun. This is the fear the predators are preying on

What an absolute stroker but, given what's gone before, not in the least surprising...

There has been, so far as I've seen, a lot of suggestion of sexual jokes, innuendo etc. Would help the discussion if those complaining actually identified what was said.to allow people to judge for themselves.
