[TV] Greg Wallace

I don’t think it’s banter, I think he’s been creepy and inappropriate by all accounts, and taken advantage of his position of authority to act like a prick in the workplace. I’m just not buying into the baying mob likening him to people who have committed very serious crimes, just because he a) has appeared on BBC shows and b) fits the “right” age, sexuality and gender profile.

Guy’s obviously a bellend, but social media is awash with outright libel calling him a rapist and other very serious allegations when his reported pattern of behaviour is not of a predatory sexual offender, but of a arrogant prat.

This.

You have to be careful about reading some of the coverage of this. I read just now about scenes being "edited out".

Well no, they wouldn't have been included in the first place alongside with the vast majority of the footage shot.

The final version would have been delivered to a review department inside the broadcaster and passed or failed based on a number of criteria. Anything that wasn't included quite obviously wouldn't be a consideration.

There is also pretty much zero insight into the reality of the "hands off nature" of TV production these days with the myriad of independent post production companies.

Even the broadcasters have "independent" production companies now, Graham Norton is made by "ITV" for the BBC, because they own his production company.

Ask the Kremlin. They'll have a way.
"BBC Announce Vladimir Putin as new presenter of Masterchef".

Total aside, but somebody I work with [edit: who's originally from Russia, to be clear, but moved to the UK many years ago while still at school] was telling me the other day that Russian Come Dine With Me is hilarious. Or used to be, anyway. Nowadays it's probably ruined by people genuinely not being allowed to say or think what they want, or make their minds up based on real information being freely available.

Newmarket.
The BBC have announced they've "learnt from previous appointments, have instigated a more rigorous selection criteria and promised to never make the same mistakes again" for the fourth or fifth or sixth time.

Captain Cook, Lorraine Kelly, Ned Kelly. What is it about Australian based members of this forum, that leads them to be unable or unwilling to get it about
Gregg Wallace?

Did you know that some Australians think Captain Cook was born in Australia? The continent he discovered in his adulthood?

I have never heard an Australian say this about Captain Cook. The prevailing narrative is that everything that has ever gone wrong here is the fault of 'your lot' (the British) coming over with invasive species and colonialism, not including themselves of course.

It is a handy yet short-sighted way to relieve themselves of any blame for anything.

I had this discussion at the weekend with a few mates and asked them when they thought Australians would take over the running of the country and accept some responsibility. 😂
