Do you have any data to support this? Whenever I talk about the monarchy with anyone, this point always comes up and I must say I don't buy it. I'm open-minded to the idea it might be true, but surely it is completely unmeasurable? Republics around the world have great tourism industries and trade links without the need for a royal family (France & Germany being obvious examples) - surely the history and culture of Britain itself attracts people rather than the fact that it has a queen which will not even remotely affect your visit to the country.
We do get tourists come to this country for the culture but the royal family is a big part of the history, in fact, they're living history. There are 53 countries in the Commonwealth that are strongly linked with this country and the Queen is head of 16 of them. That alone brings in the tourists but when you see people being interviewed in the Mall today, they had come from countries around the world. They need to spend money in hotels, restaurants, they buy clothing whilst here which all adds to the economy. Travel & tourism together make up over 7% of the GDP.
