Does this mean that.....Potter was OK....or....? ???
It doesn't mean anything.

Does anything mean anything?

Yeah probably.

I thought, still think and have consistently thought, that Potter did a good job. Whatever that's worth. Whatever that means.

I wish people would stop bringing him up though. :lolol:

How very queer.

Managers who are entitled to a payoff by clubs are oblilged to mitigate the amount paid by 'actively seeking' employment elsewhere during the period after being sacked.
So like being on Universal Credit then, Graham has to yomp up to the Stamford Bridge boardroom once a month to prove to Todd that he's banged out a few emails and had some interviews elsewhere ? Or been seen sucking his teeth in the stands at Bramall Lane ?

Fair play then. Its clearly not all Crab Linguine and sweet potato at Rockwater to get his £6m.

We already know there’s going to be quite a managerial merry-go-round this summer, based on departures already announced. You can also chuck in managers being available as a result of either really good or really bad Euros results. On top of that, other clubs like Man United might also make a change.

In short, there’s far too many variables right now. I don’t blame GP for not committing to something just yet.

Wonder if this fugger might be on the move:

Of course, his cachet may be on the wane now, with the emergence of new young managers like....er, Potter.

Yes, I have no idea who will be taking over at Chelsea, Liverpool or ManUre in the summer.

What about Poch to ManUre, Ten Bob to Chelski, Steeeveee G to Liverpool (I shit you not) and RDZ to, er, stay at Brighton.

And whatabout Tommy Tuchel?
It's got West Ham written all over it.

Dyche back to Bumley and Moysee back to Everton

That leaves Potter.
I can't see him going anywhere.
Too inexperienced for where he thinks he should be
Too grand for where he might be welcomed.

He was barely mentioned for 15 months until we lost in Rome.

It was the most unlucky internet reincarnation.

Both awful for the most expensive squad, 40% and 39%. Near the bottom end.

Obviously not. Considerably better than, say, Hiddink, Porterfield, Shelitto and Blachflower (and others) for instance. Comparisons with Poch are slanted by the fact that Poch had a full pre-season and opportunity to get rid of at least some of the cancer in the Chelski dressing room, but has ultimately turned out - despite being more famous and a bit foreign, and so more acceptable the Chelski entitled and their even more entitled players - that he isn't ultimately doing any better than Potter without the same advantages.
Doesn't show that Potter's that good - just that Poch is no better

Has the style of play improved under Poch? Haven't heard any rumours of that either.

As a coach I like Potter, but can you imagine how long it would take to get his England squad working, Not a chance. Utd if they give him the time and space he got with us, but again I doubt they will be patient.
What happens after Potter has been given time? Is this one of footballs biggest myths. After three seasons we didn’t achieve that much a mid table finish no cup runs of note despite having a pretty decent squad that RDZ got to a Europa league place at the first attempt.

I would have thought that Ajax would be a pretty decent move, assuming that this season is just a blip and not a symptom of terminal decline.

They're a massive club with huge pedigree that consistently wins the league. He'd be taking them over at their lowest ebb but could realistically expect to have them winning trophies and titles again within a couple of seasons. Do a few years at Ajax winning the league, competing in europe and his stock would be high again and he'd be much more marketable to the big clubs.

He was brought in to take over a lumbering defensively minded relegation battling team and turn them into something very different and do this on a budget. He left an incredible legacy judging from the games at the end of his penultimate season and the start of his last. We ended up with our, at the time, highest points tally and league position under Potter. Who knows where we would have ended up had he stayed but to say he didn’t achieve anything much is harsh.

I personally would like to see him go to a reasonably big but stable club with resources so we can truly see what he can achieve. I wouldn’t judge any manager on what they do at Chelsea, they can turn anyone into shit.

Would that really be the stumbling block?

I know at the top end football players/managers think very differently to us but would earning more in a week than the average person earns in a year be the reason why someone turns a job like Ajax down?

There must be a number of reasons why he wouldn't be interested - maybe a more attractive job is in the offing or maybe he doesn't want to uproot to another country again or maybe he's been burnt by Chelsea and doesn't want the risk of another potential basket case job.

I haven't thought too deeply about it, it just seemed like quite a good job for him to take.

Nah it's not wages.

Ajax might be massive but they are an absolute mess. Their squad is dreadful , the owners are dodgy and they are flat broke. Unless they are taken over they're destined for years of rubbish. This was such an easy win for us this season.

Not a surprise he’s turned them down. Anyone watch the highlights of their 6 nil thrashing to Feyenoord at the weekend? 22 shots against them in the 2nd half alone. They have an outside chance of Europe for next season, but are awful despite having been on a good run since being in the relegation zone. They are a total mess on and off the field at the moment.
The CEO was suspended last week under suspicion of insider trading, they sacked the director of football last year amid media accusations of conflict of interests with some of the overpaid, under performing new players brought in this season, whilst having pocketed €100m in transfer fees last season for players like Kudos, Bassey, etc.
