Isnt the old Crystal Palace Stadium/athletics track still in existence. If so to rebuild that would possibly be the cheapest option. There can be no NIMBY objections.

Of course there could.

Crystal Palace athletics stadium has a permanent capacity of around 15,000, and presumably is only filled a few times a year. For Palace (FC) to rebuild it, they would I guess be looking at a capacity of at least 30,000, which would be in use every other weekend for nine months of the year.

Throw in the loss of the athletics facilities, the increase in traffic and other use, and the general building work involved, and I'd say that would give any NIMBYs plenty to moan about.

Anyway, I'm sure the London Development Authority rejected this plan quite recently, any Palace fans who could enlighten us re that?

CP sports stadium has been rejected in the past. One possible site is the Croydon Arena which hosts the Croydon Harriers and Croydon FC at present plenty of land and a plan to build a football ground along with new Athletcis facilities might get the go ahead.

As for ground sharing at the withdean we have more than 5000 fans who want to watch us so its a no show on that front CHEERS :)

It would be lovely.

To be honest this is the kick start we need for a new home Selhurst is a joke and for visiting fans it must be a poor day out, the facilities surrounding it are no better. I have no regrets saying it as it is there for all to see.

Good luck to you. Would be great to have a rivalry with a new stadium for both sets of fans to look forward to!

And don't be so harsh on Smellhurst. I quite like the atmosphere it creates.

It has a great atmosphere when you get a good size crowd in and the acoustics of the Arthur Wait are better than that of the Holmesdale Road.

The Crystal Palace Athletics Stadium housing the name sake team will never happen. Why ? Because it's in Bromley and not Croydon. Last year I worked at both councils and the area around Crystal Palace (Gipsy Hill and West Norwood) are going up market. There's no way Bromley Council want a nasty, chavy football team in their borough. Remind you of anybody ?

Its not just visiting fans who must have a poor day out. I pity anyone who has to live in or around that area.

What's quite clear from that thread is that Palace fans haven't got a clue what's been going in the murky world that is populated by mysterious "investors", one of whom, no doubt, might turn out to own a company that they've never heard of that owns their ground.

We might be skint, but at least we know a lot more about who controls the Albion and what they're up to in our quest to find long-term security. And if we're not happy, we can collar Dick Knight or Martin Perry, face-to-face or on the radio, and ask them what's going on.

And they tell us.

See my earlier post. There are covenants on the athletic track at Crystal Palace which seem to prevent any usage apart from athletics. The lDA have just seeking masterplanners for the site, from watching a recent presentation on the area, I cannot recall any reference to a football stadium. My colleagues ( I work in the lDA) are working on the legacy of the stadium, I see if there is any unofficial info.
