At least if they build a new hovel for the Scumsters they won't have to worry about the nimbys complaining about an AONB.

No problems with naming the redevelopment either - Selhurst Retail Park.

Why would you need to ground share? That report states the investor would have to find an alternative site BEFORE the land is redeveloped (it total contrast to our situation).
One good bit of news out of the story. But rehousing the club could include an alternative to buying a new site and house us at another ground.

Agreed. The re-developer would only have an obligation to purchase a new site without getting involved with the intricacies of building a new stadium. A ground-share for 2 or 3 seasons maybe necessary.

No need for a new ground, just take the convoy of old ambulances, ice cream vans and ford travellers you live in and park up wherever you like and stick up some posts...can I suggest Surrenden Field or Hollingbury Golf Course as suitable venues when you play down south? seem very popular with your lot already.

"The local authority has stipulated it would not allow development at Selhurst Park stadium unless an alternative stadium is found ''within or near" the borough".

I know that this is only one sentence in a newspaper story, but someone needs to be asking a bit more of the council than this.

The council needs to be persuaded not to allow development at Selhurst Park stadium UNTIL AFTER an alternative stadium is OPEN ''within or near" the borough.

Bellotti and Archer claimed to have "found" an alternative site in Hove. Hove Borough Council then went ahead and allowed the Goldstone to be redeveloped.

Archer & Bellotti knew that if the Albion folded there would be no need for a new ground but would Jordan be thinking along the same lines ?

The difference is Jordan bleeds red and blue, your 2 couldn't have give two fucks for your club.

If you really think Simon Jordan would sell Palace down the river then you really just don't get it, he will do what is right for CPFC end of story and if he feels moving to a new ground is the only way forward then that is what he will do.

I would hope not.

Whilst I have a hatred for all things Palarse I would not want them to go to the wall. They are our rivals and without the passion that goes into that there is no point it watching football. I might as well buy myself a ticket on Air Asia and watch Manchester United v Tottenham play a Premiershit match in Malaysia.

Tis true thought that Smellhurst is falling down, I get embarassed everytime we have a home game and what we put away fans through. What is the point in paying for a seat in Hove when the pitch is in Withdean!

I'd actually question whether you chaps need to move. Selhurst is a decent sized ground in terms of capacity, it just badly needs to be renovated.

I like to know where Palace will find an alternative site and one they can afford.

Land of the size they need is scarce - Wimlbledon was searching a similar catchment area and Croydon already fetches very high land values. Which only retail, office and housing can afford. Hencew the desire to sell the stadium, which is standing on a relative pot of gold!

Unless Palace are hoping to to redevelop the old sports stadium in the Crystal Palace Park, which I doubt will be allowed.

I cannot see them finding nowt in south London.

An ambitious Championship club needs to be playing in a modern stadium rather than tarting up a run down ground.

True but the Holmesdale stand is fine and they can build another tier on the Whitehorse Lane stand as well, the main stand and the Arthur Wait are the ones that need to go, but as you lot have found out Councils and local residents are not always obliging!

Isnt the old Crystal Palace Stadium/athletics track still in existence. If so to rebuild that would possibly be the cheapest option. There can be no NIMBY objections.

The other point to the upgrading argument is that, to remain self-funding, most new build stadia (as opposed to renovating old grounds) have to incorporate other facilities- hotels, conferencing services, leisure parks, training grounds, whatever.

I have no idea what the existing planning rules regarding the Selhurst area are, but it may be that, in order to add on such other facilities in any renovation, you'd need to apply for a change of use, which the council may not sanction due to lack of relevant local infrastructure or residential opposition.

I would never claim to be an expert on planning regulations, but ultimately Jordan is a money man, and would be looking to maximise the club's income stream, in which case a completely new ground would make more financial sense, would it not?

I just hope they can find some ugly, derelict, brownfield wasteland to build on, and don't suffer all the green-belt, tree hugging opposition we did.

Oh hang on, this is Croydon, isn't it.

My mistake.
