Glenn Murray is set for a sunny start to his Albion return - in Tenerife.

A deal with Bournemouth to bring the centre-forward back to the club has not been concluded in time for him to fly out with the rest of the squad to the Canaries today.

The Seagulls are, however, hopeful of sealing a season-long loan so that Murray can link up with Chris Hughton and his players on their week-long training camp.

Signing Murray permanently has been ruled out by Albion as Bournemouth are keen to recoup a hefty slice of the £4 million fee they paid Crystal Palace for the 32-year-old at the beginning of last season.

So we have moved from Smug Eddie playing hardball to TB playing hardball?

No it wasn't.
It was no coincidence that we started scoring more goals after we increased our creative options. Before Xmas we lost Solly March and KLL and Jamie Murphy lost his edge. The strikers were trying to feed off scraps for weeks and weeks. Given all attacking options for the whole season, Hemed would have got 22-25 goals and we would have got 95 points.
Defensively, it took ages to find a settled centre back pairing. Dunk was frustratingly inconsistent and our position at left back was seriously exposed with the loss of Bong and Rosenior.
In a season of incredible injury turmoil, we still managed 89 points. Its exciting to think about what this squad can achieve given a calmer and more settled season.

absolutely spot on

I'm on the fence here. 32 yo proven goal scorer. First cog in the feel good factor wheel that started last season with Bobby. Need two out of two wins to be top of the league after Forest and then we can begin.

No where on par with Zamora sorry. When he starts scoring goals I will forgive him, but until then not overly fussed by this. From someone who is very loyal and devoted to the club, it always leaves a bad taste in the mouth when players go to your rivals.

He's a professional footballer, its a career move for him, nothing more, nothing less. He's not Brighton born, he had no affiliation with the club prior to his arrival and he owed us nothing by the end of his spell. Fans need to get over the ridiculous notion that a player should actually turn down a good career move for themselves, just because it may be to a "rival" and might offend some fans. He's got his career and his family to consider, thats always going to be his priority, not a load of precious fans who see it as some kind of slant on them.

Is there any reason why we didn't get promoted that wasn't because we didn't score enough goals ? Anything ?

Conceding a late goal at home against Burnley and at QPR were the games that cost us promotion. Even the 3rd goal at home to Middlesbro so the answer is we conceded too many goals at crucial times. Our goals for was slightly exaggerated by the large wins late in the season at home. I believe that his strength in the air would have prevented both Burnley and QPR goals that is obviously assuming he was on the pitch at the time and it is fair to make the assumption that either or both him and Hemed would have been.

Have to agree. And lets face it Murray of all players didn't have a great report with the fans while he was here before.

I for one will be happy if we get him back. A decent player at this level.

1 yr loan how can this not be a decent signing, he's better than what we have and we don't have to flog hemed to death week free week

It's funny how nobody mentions the 2 goal lead we let slip at Bolton.A 93rd min equaliser against the worst team in the league.

I hope he's forgotten the cheering when he went off injured in the play offs.

I can honestly say I didn't hear anything remotely like cheering from the WSL

Absolutely. I think we need to consider too, the fact that when last manager at the Albion, was one who didn't really rate him, and refused him any kind of pay rise , despits scoring a hatful of goals that spearheaded promotion to the Championship in 2010/11.

So when a cub made a much better offer to him, (albeit Patarse), is it really any surprise that he chose to go?

Indeed. Don't blame our defence (well maybe Dunk's inevitable moments of madness to cancel out his heroics) but the tactics of defending ever deeper. It never works for us.
