We scored 9 more goals than Middlesbrough, the same number as Burnley.

I don't think it had anything to do with not enough goals that we didn't go up. I think that on our day we were the best side in the League last year. A mix of the following cost us promotion.

1. A bit of bad luck around December and January when we had some long term injuries in the same position which we couldn't have forseen and that can be addressed in this transfer window.

2. A lack of experience by some players of being in such a position to clinch promotion. They now have that experience going into this season

3. Some silly discipline problems during some key matches where we had players sent off. That's something I hope Chris addresses for the coming season

But what if one of those is injured....what if ...what if what if what if .......ah the game of football...what if Smith had scored
But signing Zamora into a squad containing Baldock meant they weren't 'what if' they were 'when'.

Every player has a what if about them, not every player has a Kaz-esque when.

Yes I'm not denying that. But I'm saying it was a fair few weeks before Jan 29th that Bozza posted something on here about how he's desperate to re-join - was just saying... Naulor can play the #writeagain card all he wants!

Honest...

I have also heard it is a done deal!

As it seems this is going through / gone through, let's take a minute to thank these 2 chaos. People (incl me) will always be sceptical of stuff like this on here, but it seems you were both spot on and I'm not aware it was anywhere in the press at this point - so thanks lads/lasses

The three or four games that we scored heavily towards the end of the season masks the FACT that we were lightweight upfront until January. Less goals and more wins would have seen us over the line as would beating rather than drawing with the teams that finished above us

Agreed. It could be anything of a number of things.
In the first half of the season we had scoring draws with Burnley, Derby, Cardiff, Reading, Huddersfield and Bolton.
Even just one fewer goal conceded from any of those games would have seen us promoted. So, over 46 games, was it still ALL down to our forward line ?

If all goals are equal can we take 8 of the superfluous goals from Fulham, QPR & Charlton and include them into these games:-

Boro
Derby
Burnley
Weds

Preston
Hull
&
Ipswich.

Hmmm those highlighted teams seem to have something in common, I just can't put my finger on it.

If Ridgewell and Murray are the LIMIT of our AMBITIONS I'm RIPPING up my season ticket and sending it to Barber

#barberout

Don't worry....they are not the limit of our ambitions. Through contacts outside the club, I am led to believe that we are actively trying to strengthen. These things take time.

No it wasn't.
It was no coincidence that we started scoring more goals after we increased our creative options. Before Xmas we lost Solly March and KLL and Jamie Murphy lost his edge. The strikers were trying to feed off scraps for weeks and weeks. Given all attacking options for the whole season, Hemed would have got 22-25 goals and we would have got 95 points.
Defensively, it took ages to find a settled centre back pairing. Dunk was frustratingly inconsistent and our position at left back was seriously exposed with the loss of Bong and Rosenior.
In a season of incredible injury turmoil, we still managed 89 points. Its exciting to think about what this squad can achieve given a calmer and more settled season.

Glenn Murray is set for a sunny start to his Albion return - in Tenerife.

A deal with Bournemouth to bring the centre-forward back to the club has not been concluded in time for him to fly out with the rest of the squad to the Canaries today.

The Seagulls are, however, hopeful of sealing a season-long loan so that Murray can link up with Chris Hughton and his players on their week-long training camp.

Signing Murray permanently has been ruled out by Albion as Bournemouth are keen to recoup a hefty slice of the £4 million fee they paid Crystal Palace for the 32-year-old at the beginning of last season.
