[Albion] Georginio Rutter - singed 19/8/24

He has that striker's instinct which makes him a number nine. I don't think Pedro is suited to that position like Georginio and prefers to drop slightly deeper into a number ten role. Georginio scored a brace on Saturday and another one today, he is getting a bit of form and should be starting against Manchester United in my opinion. He has that attacking threat which was so desperately needed in the second half.

It was glaringly obvious first half and for many of the games in the recent run we played with no striker. Miss Welbeck so much. Nobody was on the last man and we were so blunt. How Fab can’t see it is beyond me. When Rutter came on we looked much better.

Just seen his interview on TNT. What a joyful man. Straight after that, he goes to the crowd to spread more joy.
He's great. Loved his reaction to the VAR check too, the same facial expressions that a fan would cycle through, ending on relief.

Impossible not to love this guy. He’s always smiling. Can see why he was such a fan favourite at Leeds and already is here.

I notice the early doubters and critics are strangely silent. Onto the next target no doubt.
I thought he was the biggest risk of the signings given the fee. He’s turned out to be the best of the lot by a long way. Agree with @Krafty he has to start at United if fit.

I can understand skepticism, but the negativity was baffling, there’s a difference between “I’m not sure, wait and see” to “he didn’t score a hatrick off the bench on his debut and we lost, he’s shit and nothing can convince me otherwise” - which was in not so many words so people’s view because of the fee.

I trust the club implicitly. Not every deal will work but this one looked a gem from the off for me having seen him many times for Leeds on the telly

It’s almost like we should give young players who are new to the Premier League some time.

As said many times before, Mac Allister, Bissouma, Caicedo, Mitoma and Baleba all took time / loans before establishing themselves.

I’ve just re-read the first 300 posts of this thread, which was before he’d even had his medical!

The same could be said about all the new players (and Fab). Which is why some of the negativity on this board is just so unhelpful.

Yeah, quite astonishing isn’t it!
You have to be able to admit when you’re wrong. I’d never seen him play well for Leeds when I’d seen him on TV, and I don’t think he started particularly well with us. I then missed the first few apparently better performances from him for us (holidays, away performances etc).

But having seen enough of him now I’d happily admit I think he’s going be a very comfortable Premier League player for us, and has currently been the best of our summer signings, by quite some distance to be honest.

True - but the medics had almost certainly advised best not to play Welbeck and Georginio for the whole 90. Much better to basically keep shape, not concede for the first hour, then change things up.

Yes, i'm very much hoping to see Georginio as central striker against Man U. Keep Danny for his last half an hour cameo

Totally different team with those two up top.
Without them we are simply dull.
With them we are dynamic, aggressive, expansive.
Absolutely - it's transformative isn't it? We suddenly look really full of purpose in the final third.

Love the Rutter x Welbeck combo so much - you can see they absolutely love it as well.
I think they have similar personalities (and that's a massive compliment to Rutter), which has got to help.

I might start referring to Rutter as Dat Other Guy

Georgi does not score that goal against Ipswich without either Welbz or the back heel dummy he performed to create the space for his turn and shot.

Special players.

22 years old… I’m not sure that had previously registered with me. Still so young.
He would’ve only been 19ish when he scored 8 goals in a Bundesliga season for Hoffenheim. You can see why he’s commanded some big fees in his relatively short career to date.

Very, very high ceiling given the maturity he’s already showing.
