Finally managed a kingfisher photo after months of trying.

Heading to Iceland to try some landscape photography next week - completely new for me so any tips welcome :)

I think you need no advice, certainly not from me regarding how to take a cracking photo, but a friend of mine recently had a holiday in Iceland and told me this. Assuming you will be hiring a car, don't make the mistake of getting a Vauxhall Corsa or whatever of that car-ilk. My friend did because it was a fraction of the cost of a 4x4 which he thought wasn't necessary having seen the roads in the town where he was staying. Off he went away from the town in to real Icelandic countryside. The further he drove, the more he wished he'd invested in a 4x4. Bouncing up and down as he negotiated the pot-holes, various other obstacles and unsafe to do more than 2 mph!
Looking forwards to seeing the snaps you bring back on here or your Flickr page.

Thanks.
I've actually been to Iceland 7 times before but bizarrely never taken many landscape pics.
Went with my 400mm lens last year and got some pleasing wildlife shots but didn't own a decent lens I could take pics of the landscape with.
Just bought a 24-105mm and this will be the first time using it!

I've done a bit of reading up on landscape photography, and one expert said that although a high F number is usually recommended, for long depth of field, he said that F11 is his preferred aperture setting. The beauty of photography nowadays means that you can change the settings 'til the cows come home and it costs nothing!

The Orangery in all it's glory at the back of Stanmer Park. Some of us remember when it was in one piece.

It took a while to get this. As the letters lit up at random, failures included RIGHTON PIER and BRIGHTON PIE but got there in the end.

Loads of Iceland shots to process but here's one of my favourites so far.

I don't know whether this is a steep road down, but I had to hang on to my sofa in case I fell down it! Brilliant shot, amazing colours.

I am looking to go there next August, my cousin has a house there, did you take this pic?.....what can you tell about the place?
I've been here just over two years.

Whereabouts is your cousin's house? I live in St John's.

A few things to note about Newfoundland: Incredible coastal scenery, friendly and hospitable locals, lots of trees, long distances, lots of moose, and bad roads.

Saw this on Madeira Drive last Sunday. This chopper had the loveliest looking engine I've ever seen.
I think you need more DOF, or to focus on the 'round bit' (that's a technical term) it's too soft IMO.
