Interesting about not having to polar align, I am sure that I read somewhere that you did it but it was easy... maybe it was for the Dwarf 3 which is one of the competitors. Did you look at the Dwarf machines or just go directly for the seestar? I notice that someone local is posting seestar pictures on Brighton skies - not just simpler but a lot less capture time than using a DLR. There's rumours that a s80 will be released as well but i think it will be well out of my budget.
Went straight to the Seestar; wanted a larger aperture. With mosaic mode you can image larger objects too.. Although you’re compromising the data and depth to the image in some cases.

Adobe Photography Plan 20 gb plan is down to £62.99 for Black Friday (48% off). If you already have a subscription, you can buy this and redeem it, and it adds a year to your plan. Just bought another year, and fully paid up till April 2027 now (after doing the same last Black Friday).

Thanks I might give it a go. I normally use lightroom 5.7.1 bought awhile back as a one off and then use photoshop elements for slightly creative things. Not sure if i will be overwhelmed by it....

Just be aware that if you sign up for this subscription service, there is no going back to a standalone Lightroom. You'll be paying forever more. If you are happy with what you have, then don't rush to change.

I did, reluctantly - but I must say, with the almost half price discounts every year, it's not much. But I use it a lot.

It can be done - but not easily, and you lose bits, maybe.

Had a day of street photography in Preston last week - a good place to go for variety of people and buildings. I'd never been to the iconic Preston Bus Station before - easy to spend quite some time there snapping away. Just not that many people!

And I quite liked this bit of street art outside it, with a great juxtaposition of the painted hat and blonde lady.

Can anyone recommend a good book on composition?

I kind of understand the basics from an art background and a few videos.

I would like to get better at this though.

I can recommend " The Photographer's Eye " by Michael Freeman. It covers many aspects of composition including the image frame, texture, light and colour. The other thing I would recommend is looking at images from photographers who are well respected in their field and analysing their photographs to see what draws your eye and how the frame is structured. For landscape for example - Charlie Waite, Joe Cornish and David Noton. Depends on your preferences for photographic subjects but there are lots of photographers with extensive galleries online.

Another book I've just remembered, which in my view is excellent in many different photo situations, is "Within the Frame" by David du Chemin, a Canadian photographer. He puts great emphasis on vision and taking pictures which tell a story. Take photographs which tell the viewer what it feels like rather than just what it looks like.

Decided to sack off the chores and the finding of the Christmas tree and instead go for a three hour wander around Worthing to clear away the disappointment of last night. Snapped a bunch but only really pleased with this one of a pair of Nike Airs hanging from a tree in Homefield Park
