Fortunately chaps I don't have any regrets. I've only shot RAW since my first digital camera in 2003, and I have something like 350,000 files, Firstly NEFs (Nikon) then CR2s (Canon) and now ARS (Sony) all 350,000 files have been converted to Adobe DNG, all the raw images are catalogued, captioned and keyworded and stored on my 8TB hard drives, all are backed up of course and easily accessed and the 8TB HD's cost me £150 eac

For those of you thinking should I shoot raw, here's the an image that I took today of a church ceiling. The first image is just a straight jpeg conversion from a raw file, the second image is the same raw file but with a few adjustments made in lightroom which took about 3 minutes, then converted to a jpeg. The second image has much more detail in the shadow and highlight areas, and generally looks brighter. Some of the detail will most likely have been lost if the image had been shot as a jpeg.

These are just basic edits that have been applied that you could pick up in a morning. And for those that like the technical details 5 second exposure at F16 :)
And how much does your camera/lenses cost?

I just released that a while back I installed Darktable on my laptop (I use Linux). I've barely touched it and had forgotten I even had it. Yet another illustration why RAW is wasted on me.

With respect, its not really relevant vis a vis whether to shoot raw or not. But since you asked, as Im getting on a bit and don't like carrying loads of stuff about I only have one camera and one lens, Sony A7R3a + 24-70 F2.8 Sigma Lens, Total cost around 3k. Oh yes, I also have a nice point and shoot 'street photography' fuji x100v. and thats it ....

I may be wrong, but It's my gut feeling that cost does have a bearing. I think anyone who is 3k into a hobby would most likely want the best from it. Hence definitely want to shoot in RAW. I'm no where near into it to that level, hence I'm more likely to be happy with JPEG.

Anyway, I'll leave it there as I seem to be turning it into a RAW Vs JPEG argument and that wasn't really my intention to start with. I was just making the horses for courses point. I don't want it to turn into team #whatever, as it's been pointed out

It's the only thing 'straight' about that shot. Tee hee.

Learning the Lightroom straighten/perspective tool was a blessing - and a curse.

As the person who raised the point with my question to 1066familyman I think we have done this to death now. Each will have their own opinion as to what suits them...

Another close up. A white tufted grebe this time.
The black flecks running away from the eye remind me of rivers flowing down a mountain but maybe that's just me!!
