Bollocks. This is an important issue. We cannot be a forward thinking world power if our citizens are not equal.

At this moment in time, I couldn't give a toss. Cameron is using it to deflect their dire performance on the big stage.

I'd happily vote in favour of same sex marriage.

What are the benefits of marriage? Same sex couples won't be married in the Church of England, will they? Hasn't a policy just been passed to remove benefits of being married?

Oh really, so you think the rest of the world is so interested in the right to homosexuals to get married?

I wonder what Russia or China will think?

Backward thinking China and Russia are not particularly great examples. In fact, I imagine they would be interested and vehemently against the proposals.

Who cares what Russia or China will think?

You clearly want out our country to move towards those countries when it comes to attitudes to human rights. If you had half a brain you might see that it would be preferable if their attitudes were to become somewhat more enlightened, rather than ours becoming more bigoted.

IF I believed in god, it would be a personal belief, and not one that should be imposed on society. My religious beliefs are mine and not the basis for whether or not the law allows other people to share their lives.

Christians do not own marriage. Marriage is not exclusively a religious institution, and throughout history there has been a multitude of reasons for people to marry, not just procreation.
great post

Quite, and they will soon be the new world order.

I cannot believe that the Government has wasted time and money on something that was not in either party's manifesto. Shame on them with so many much more important issues.

You're actually worried about what Russia or China think?!

Well in that case, maybe you could become the UK's equivalent of Sir Les Patterson? That'll see us right with them uptight Commies (& former Commies).

Couldn't give a toss. Cameron has been snide and brought this up to deflect from real important issues affecting this country.

I consider you an intelligent and thoughtful poster Mr Fun but I struggle to believe that this was a plan to deflect attention. DC has hardly had an easy ride with so many Tories voting against. Thankfully parliament decided to side with equality and common sense rather religious bigotry.

It may have escaped your notice, but Russia is no longer communist and has major natural assets, and China is rapidly taking ownership of most of the western world's assets. Yes, I do worry what they think, and so should you.

Oh well, I hope all those that voted in favour are happy when their kids/grand kids get married to someone of their own sex, and they end up without grandchildren or great-grandchildren. Having said that, I am not sure too many are in straight relationships to have kids anyway.

I think you may have be labouring under a misapprehension here.

Should this be passed into law, it doesn't actually make it compulsory to enter into a homosexual relationship or marriage.

I'm certainly not. I'm proud to say I come from a long line of homos. I'm a 7th generation woopsie from Worthing.
