very much this, and maybe a little party hat aswell to help preserve the innocence of the local children.

Exactly. Until now, no one has asked, "what about the children?"

Like quite a few people I think Iran was more likely to be behind the Lockerbie bombing than Libya.

If Megrahi HAD done it why keep denying it when he was released and while close to death.

Iran wanted revenge for the airliner the Yanks shot down the same year.

Much more likely to have been them.

The evidence found in Malta was suspicious too

First I heard of it.
However, having watched a documentary about how they traced the espionage back to Libya I'd have to go with the accused being correctly identified.
Gadaffi claimed Libya were the target of all blame for every dodgy deed at that time, and named the financial settlement as a peace-branch for the sake of getting a political repair rather than an admission of guilt.
I suppose we can never know 100% for certain about the dealings. Tracing the bombers back to a clothing shop in Malta may be as near as they get to the culprits.

The questions remain, and recriminations always contain a seed of doubt;

I find it *bit odd* that the culprits would NOT announce their own guilt and intent - surely strange to make such a 'statement' and then not identify a reason, or identify their affiliation.

I'm not trying to provoke an argument or even a discussion here but I am amazed at the naivety of many people to not realise that in most cases our involvement in humanitarian aid to certain countries (but not others) has direct relation to our business aims and the protection of British assets around the world.

Whilst I fully understand our political and energy strategies might require some active involvement the case of libya has so much hypocrisy around it it beggars belief that many more people have not spoken out. What joy it was to hear one of Blairs liars this morning trying to defend his leaders hug of the said dictator not many months ago as well as Camerons joy at his involvement at removing the same dictator yesterday. It was nice to hear his fellow Tory immediately ask for £300M as (thanks) payment for the bombing. Funny how both the UK & France have rushed to aid the country once they realised how badly their national companies profits had dipped when their dealings in that country had been crippled by the war. They were quick to jump ship to the NTC (rebels) and will no doubt have boats lined up to collect the payment for business interests damaged by their bombings to save the Libyan people. Don't seem to see them rushing in to Syria Oman or Egypt to help either?

They almost trotted out the WMD argument this morning too - is that the same WMD that were in Iraq or another stash they have yet to find?

Lets see if Libya becomes a western style democracy or if the fundamentalists take control - They may have got rid of one mad dictator for 100 more and they may now put in power people who will rush to war with Israel - something Gadaffi never wanted to do presumably because his mother was Jewish.

Well of course I do understand there is hypocrisy rife in our dealings with Gadaffi, and the US with Saddam, and many others I'm sure.
I'm not a mug that thinks these hugging ministers are all on the up and up. Obama has sat grinning with Gadaffi, and a few other leaders have made nice with him.

But you are digressing - the question was whether Libya was involved in the PanAm Jumbo downed - which I believe they *probably* were.
All that other info can be taken as very probable..... but it's guff when we are talking about another subject where it's not really pertinent to the content.
I'm not making an argument - just saying what I think about the allegations surrounding a significant crime and murder of many innocents.
