Just out of interest, what would you consider our strongest side that you could have put out last night?

Other than Kuszczak and Ward in for Brezovan and Chicksen, I'm sure that if you post it you'll get a number of responses from people with a different lineup.

Our strongest lineup is a largely subjective concept and also arguably contextual once you factor in the opposition and fitness

A team that won it's last league game 1-0 would not have had any changes if it were a league game. So I do believe Garcia put out a side that was weaker. I don't blame him particularly as every team does now apart from maybe Sheffield United.

Ridiculous thread. It's a squad game now, this isn't 1985 when you had a definite 1st XI and everyone else is a reserve. This squad has about 15 players all with 1st team experience and all of a similar standard. We're actually in a pretty good place with the standard of the whole squad, the only really weak point is up front when Ulloa isn't on the pitch

And if it had been a League game last night rather than a cup game do you REALLY think OG would have selected that team? ???

It's been said before and it's going to be said here again, lastnights team selection was a total piss take out of fans and the F.A cup and I for one am gutted, I totally concur with Robbie Savage. Enormous opportunity to get to the quarter final of the FA CUP for a winnable tie against our former manager and would have also given us another big pay day and he makes 7 ****ing changes!

I half understand it against the likes of Port Vale but not against Hull who ended up making less changes than we did.

I'm not sure who he thinks we are to make that many changes and I hope the FA in the future fix it so that clubs cant change more than 3 players from a Saturday game or you may aswell just call it the Reserve team cup & we can play the games at Lancing. The only thing I can think is that he doesn't understand the F.A cup, what it means to the fans and it's history, is it not the greatest cup comp in the world?

Buckley - not fit
Chicksen - not good enough
JFC - was always going to lose the midfield battle
Brezovan - Distribution was poor
Andrews - terrible
Dunk - solid but rather have greer

It's not all about how the players do on the night, a solid team that are used to playing together obviousyly play better than sticking a load of players for a one off game.

No more FA cup games for me whilst Oscar is in charge, if he cant be arsed to put a winning team out then neither can I.

Fans support the team. They don't pick the team. That is the province of the manager. You are not the manager. I am not even sure if you are a fan, because like I said, fans support the team.

So tell me friend, what are you?

In other news, Lewis Dunk looked like he could play in a top PL side last night, lovely to see that kind of quality from him again. He was the highlight of the night for me (along with Ulloa's finish which was immense).

I stopped reading when I realized you were female, apologies.

I respect your right to have opinions on the football, even if I totally disagree with them, but this comment deserves nothing but utter contempt and a ban.

Can't you see that it demeans no-one but yourself? Congratulations!

If you lot are happy with seeing 7 changes for a huge FA cup game then good luck to you. We should have gone all out to win it lastnight, we didn't and paid the price and now have to face two games in 48 hours. He's de-valued the comp, end of!
imho I have to agree , sadly the great institution of our FA cup has been de-valued for some years now , just so pleased to have witnessed full strength games of the past ( from both clubs ) , squad game now yes that is true but for games of such importance I beg to differ , end of season games with no meaning fine , to cover injuries fine but in games of magnitude no way , when best players are fit sorry cannot agree. This was of course started by the premier league teams but also goes back initially to Man Utd pulling out of our beloved cup a few years back. It is imho a shame that sides are not fined for starting games with knowingly weakened teams as they were in the past .

Totally disagree with he OP.

Oscars selection was great.. we played some very beautiful football at times, and I love the way Oscar puts trust in the young players. (Not something we saw too much of last year!) He is building a SQUAD.

In fact, I see that as a big difference between our last and present manager. Oscar is keen to develop the talent we have.. thats what he is good at and what he likes to do.
Our previous manager wanted to buy the finished article.

We gave a good account of our selfs last night with a weaked team. To have 5 players coming through the DS squard and play in a quarter final against a PL team who snatched a late equaliser shows how far we have come.

I am 100% in love with Oscar, he wants his players playing for the fans and not them selfs. I have all the faith and trust in the world in Oscar and i can only see good things happening for us.

Would be good to bump this thread one day.

I've never thought of it like that before. But you're right

Thinking about it, developing younger players to the required standard and giving them a go is very much a Barcelona thing. I quite like that long-term sort of approach and would be quite prepared to have a bit of patience with Oscar to see if he can take that further over the next few years. Be it in the Championship or Premier League.

I think if we'd lost our last league game nobody would bat an eyelid about changing the team.

I think if Greer and Ward were injured and Stephens suspended nobody would complain about the replacements.

The performance vindicated the selection, people will always find something to moan about if we don't win. If he'd been able to pick the same team and we lost the same people would be on here saying certain players aren't good enough.

We were weaker in defence with deputies for goalkeeper and full backs, that I will give you, and it did make a difference.
As for the other changes, they are all first team players that could well play (and have) on any given Saturday.

I guess Stephens will be back instead of Julie for Saturday.

Certainly should be, based on last night's performance.

The changes WERE needed as our first choice players are so tired. A lot of them have lmaued 30 games already this year, so why not rest them? Obviously progressing through the cup is nice, but is it a priority? I bloody hope not, I don't want are chances (although slim) of promotion compromised. Furthermore, the team we put out yesterday looked capable of winning, and we would have if the ref gave that free kick on 84 mins. You could argue Hull were unlucky hitting the post, but so did we! And Ulloa should have got a second before half time! We started two wingers and our best two players (Upson + Ulloa), winning intent was clearly there.
