It's been said before and it's going to be said here again, lastnights team selection was a total piss take out of fans and the F.A cup and I for one am gutted, I totally concur with Robbie Savage. Enormous opportunity to get to the quarter final of the FA CUP for a winnable tie against our former manager and would have also given us another big pay day and he makes 7 ****ing changes!

I half understand it against the likes of Port Vale but not against Hull who ended up making less changes than we did.

I'm not sure who he thinks we are to make that many changes and I hope the FA in the future fix it so that clubs cant change more than 3 players from a Saturday game or you may aswell just call it the Reserve team cup & we can play the games at Lancing. The only thing I can think is that he doesn't understand the F.A cup, what it means to the fans and it's history, is it not the greatest cup comp in the world?

JFC - was always going to lose the midfield battle
Brezovan - Distribution was poor
Andrews - terrible
Dunk - solid but rather have greer

It's not all about how the players do on the night, a solid team that are used to playing together obviousyly play better than sticking a load of players for a one off game.

No more FA cup games for me whilst Oscar is in charge, if he cant be arsed to put a winning team out then neither can I.

Don't agree with all the OP has said, but he does have a very valid point which is that the manager should have played our strongest available team when we're up against a team in the bottom half of the Premier League and only two wins away from a semi-final ... and already knowing that if we win, then the next game is also winnable. I think he and the club owe that to the fans.

As it was Dunk did fine; Brezovan was fine; Chicksen was OK, but he's nowhere near as good as Ward; JFC was so-so; Andrews was awful. Not sure what midfield alternatives there were with Stephens being cup-tied, but Orlandi and Agustein come to mind.

I don't think you would be writing this if we would have won last night, however the way the match ended, to me does feel like a defeat. It's not that they threw it away and were shi*e, I think it was unlucky as Brighton actually played brilliantly. However I do agree with you on the basis of team selection, It's actually popped into my head - Does Oscar actually choose the x11? you don't know these days.. I'm sure he does.. I'm also sure that it would of been a different game with our strongest 11 out. Fair play to people like Chickenson, Dunk, March, Brez who all gave good accounts of themselves. I'm all for that, just not at this stage of the FA Cup..

I am pleased that we have so many young players coming through, including Chicksen - that's not the argument I have with last night's selection.

There are 46 league games that we can test out and bring on young players - the fifth round of the FA Cup against Premier League opposition is not, in my opinion, the time nor the place to do so.

Chicksen wasn't bought in to start the season.
Loanee Ward by age and experience is so good, he's made losing Bridge tolerable.
There is no room at the end of the league season to play Chicksen, because of our league position.

Next season what do you want Oscar to do:-

Play a startled rabbit with no first team experience?
or
Spend £500,000+ and/or £10k a week in loanee wages, while still not playing Chicksen?

I'm not saying he won't come good, but at 22 I'd hoped for him to have a little more composure. I'm not having a go, he needs games and experience, and I wont be unhappy to see him start next Monday.

I was not annoyed by the team selection at all last night, it was clearly justified. What did annoy me however was how we were defending in our own 6 yard box from 70 mins! It was clear that were going to get a break if we continued to take that amount of pressure and that I am annoyed with Oscar for. the last 5/10 but for the last 20 is asking a lot, especially when we had nothing on the counter.

Unfortunately for Oscar, Obika has absolutely zero footballing ability and was more of a hindrance than an outlet. Possibly Rodriguez would have been a better option, but that's easy to say in hindsight.

Leo looked shattered and I thought Obika would be spot on to provide an outlet and an injection of energy... A real shame he seemed to suffer from stage fright - I'm pretty sure he wouldn't have spent so long on Spurs' books if his touch is actually that bad when his mind is on it. Who knows what might have been different if D_Rod had come on instead, but as you say, hindsight always makes it easier!

Aside from that, as others have already said I thought yesterdays team was stronger than I expected and (with the possible exceptions of Andrews and LuaLua and later Obika) everybody made a good fist of it but were let down a bit by he defending deep and the lack of pace up frontin the second half - certainly not by the team picked to play the match.
