The changes WERE needed as our first choice players are so tired. A lot of them have lmaued 30 games already this year, so why not rest them? Obviously progressing through the cup is nice, but is it a priority? I bloody hope not, I don't want are chances (although slim) of promotion compromised. Furthermore, the team we put out yesterday looked capable of winning, and we would have if the ref gave that free kick on 84 mins. You could argue Hull were unlucky hitting the post, but so did we! And Ulloa should have got a second before half time! We started two wingers and our best two players (Upson + Ulloa), winning intent was clearly there.

I've never thought of it like that before. But you're right

Thinking about it, developing younger players to the required standard and giving them a go is very much a Barcelona thing. I quite like that long-term sort of approach and would be quite prepared to have a bit of patience with Oscar to see if he can take that further over the next few years. Be it in the Championship or Premier League.

Quite right, the development of Ince and March this season has been great to see, they are both showing signs of being real assets to the club for years to come. Dunk was great last night I thought and showed signs of being that player that broke through into the first team a few years ago. Chicksen didn't look that out of place, considering he had very little support from Lua Lua and was cleaned out by a Hull player early in the first half. I thought he came out of the game looking like another decent prospect.

With the new training ground and academy almost at completion, a manager who is showing that he is willing to give younger players a chance if they are good enough, it seems as though we might be an attractive proposition for younger players.

He's a young man relearning his trade at a higher division, in a team with greater expectations.
He played well enough, all things considered, against a Premier League side, not 'sparing the horses'.

Why isn't everybody pretty pleased that we have a young, English (if that's your thing), left back, still learning but nearly ready for the first team next season, already at the club and not commanding a massive FFP wage.

Isn't Chicksen a massive bonus for the Albion?

Not at all, merely to the "female" comment.

For what it's worth, I'd have done the same had he insulted any other poster in that way. I try very hard to be objective on here and particularly not to hand out infractions to people simply because they've pissed me off personally (NSC is all about opinions after all). I just thought that crossed a line on a general basis.

I also thought it reeked of a spoof account, but hey, life's too short to worry about that. He'll be back in due course.

Did we? They hit the woodwork twice and we cleared one off the line. They had 58% possession and more shots on target!

I go to watch us win, not watch squad players and Oscar gamble against prem teams.

I go to be entertained. I certainly got that last night in bucketloads, and our team played a major part in that.

I am happy to go along with what our very able head coach decides in terms of team selection.

I am content that, if I wanted to dictate team selection, I would need to buy my own football team and, then if I did, I would probably end up with an unhappy head coach, manager or whatever because of an interfering owner.

It's been said before and it's going to be said here again, lastnights team selection was a total piss take out of fans and the F.A cup and I for one am gutted, I totally concur with Robbie Savage. Enormous opportunity to get to the quarter final of the FA CUP for a winnable tie against our former manager and would have also given us another big pay day and he makes 7 ****ing changes!

I half understand it against the likes of Port Vale but not against Hull who ended up making less changes than we did.

I'm not sure who he thinks we are to make that many changes and I hope the FA in the future fix it so that clubs cant change more than 3 players from a Saturday game or you may aswell just call it the Reserve team cup & we can play the games at Lancing. The only thing I can think is that he doesn't understand the F.A cup, what it means to the fans and it's history, is it not the greatest cup comp in the world?

JFC - was always going to lose the midfield battle
Brezovan - Distribution was poor
Andrews - terrible
Dunk - solid but rather have greer

It's not all about how the players do on the night, a solid team that are used to playing together obviousyly play better than sticking a load of players for a one off game.

No more FA cup games for me whilst Oscar is in charge, if he cant be arsed to put a winning team out then neither can I.

I think it depends on what you think is important. An outside shout at a play off with 16 games to get to that or a great chance to progress to the semi final at Wembley in the " greatest cup competition in the World ". I come from an age where the whole World stopped for cup final day and was there in 1983 and I can assure you Melia nor any other manager would have fielded anything other than our strongest possible team in the past so I sympathise with the OP and think the abuse and piss taking is more a sign of the times than any outrageous comment he has made. The fact is NO ONE gives a toss about the FA Cup anymore and for me that is very sad.

But what about fans who don't value the cup by not going when the tickets are so cheap

This is the problem, yes he's behind Ward, but he will never catch up if he doesn't get game time.

Hypothetical question: What if Ward gets injured for the last game of the season before a game we need 3 points from to qualify for the playoffs (or any vital league game)? Would people be happy with Chicksen making his debut then?

I'm of the opinion that left back is not the most key position in the side and we can afford to bring through a youngster in cup matches. For what it's worth, I though he was excellent up until the point he got karate kicked.

I am pleased that we have so many young players coming through, including Chicksen - that's not the argument I have with last night's selection.

There are 46 league games that we can test out and bring on young players - the fifth round of the FA Cup against Premier League opposition is not, in my opinion, the time nor the place to do so.

I'm not saying he won't come good, but at 22 I'd hoped for him to have a little more composure. I'm not having a go, he needs games and experience, and I wont be unhappy to see him start next Monday.

Chicksen, Dunk and JFC are all good enough. March has played enough lately so shouldn't have been included and wasn't.
Brez seems to play cup games so there we go. Buckley is first team so yeah no issue.

Only issue was Andrews who had a dreadful night but has been 1st choice a lot of the time so isn't currently a downgrade just had a down night (with hindsight).
