Also Braveheart was filmed in Ireland and not the land of the Porridgewogs.

I have never heard the skirtwearers referred to as porridgewogs.

The Clint Eastwood Spaggetti westerns - not south New Mexico but Almeria, Spain and Gran Canaria, Spain.

Most, if not the majority of Ashes to Ashes is filmed in Canning Town and the Royal Docks, near Tate and Lyle. Based on the 5 progs so far, Canning Town is even dodgier than in reality. And in reality its dodgy.

And last night the surveillance bit was in Lewisham, on the Lewisham Centre I think. Another lovely place.

A bit dated, but most of the X-Files was filmed in Canada, actually all of it I think. It was just cheaper there.

One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest was not, as popularly assumed, filmed in a dusused mental asylum. The majority of filming in fact took place inside the boardroom and canteen at Elland Road, whilst most of the exteriors were shot close to what is now Centreparcs.

Doctor Who is filmed in Cardiff.

They add all the tube street signs and stuff and just have a few days filming in London.

In the last episode one of the 'mocked' tube station signs read as Donavan Street as referance to Kylies neighbours past.

In the final episode of Tenko, the women POWs were taken to Singapore Airport. This was in fact, Shoreham Airport.

Also, one episode of Hercule Poirot (Death In The Clouds) was meant to be Croydon Airport. That was also filmed at Shoreham... badly. They forgot to erase a white van out of one scene.

The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe was actually filmed just outside of Matlock. They had trouble with the authorities of Narnia and all filming rights fell through, leading to a last minute switch to Derbyshire.

The Bill - not London

but Croydon

Wrong! Just outside Wimbledon (to be more precise if you are driving from Morden to South Wimbledon the building used as "Sun Hill" Nick is on the industrial estate on the RHS just before you approach South Wimbledon. My brother in law took us to see it - most of the police signs are (badly) covered up when not being used for filming.

Parts of The Bill have been filmed in Croydon. I came across one bit of filming in Wandle Road behind the car park. There have been snippets of Croydon High Street too.

The exterior shot for the Nag's Head was filmed outside the pub in Bevendean, the name of which escapes me, and I think is no longer there.

The allotment scene where they 'discovered' the Peckham Spring was filmed at the allotments above Upper Bevendean, just along from the old Bevendean hospital.

Lovejoy wasn't filmed in Suffolk, but here in northest Essex. Quite a lot of it was filmed in my Guv'nor's gaff, as (i) he lives in a big, rambling farmhouse and, (ii) it only took the film crew 45 mins to f*** off back down to London at the end of each day.

Cheeky buggers filmed a scene outside my flat one morning in Clapham.

A lot of the bill used to film around the South Wimbledon / Colliers Wood area too. I used to see their odd cars with the blacked out Police signs all the time.

I know a few London scenes from Prime Suspect were filmed in Manchester because I accidently walked into the middle of the set once. There was a building down some back street that looked like the front of the old bailey (I think). I knew all the short cuts and cut literally walked through the action as they filmed it.

So many extras there no-one noticed...including me, I presumed the crew were filming some kind of real event at first.

Many years ago, when I was in-between school and university, I spent a summer working for landscape gardener, based in Newick. That summer we did a job for an outside broadcast of 'Campion' (a 1980's BBC costume drama with Peter Davidson). We had to dig up a hedge in Danehill and spray the earth with green vegetable dye to make it look like grass. At the end of filming we replaced the hedge. The filming took all day and the scene on the final programme must have been about 7 seconds.

Still, the burger van was good and free too.
