I don't know what my first crisp was, but my mum always had Smiths salt n shake, so they probably featured.

Smiths did actually try the same concept with flavoured crisps for a while - flavour 'n' shake - you got a small sachet of, say, cheese & onion flavouring, to open and sprinkle before giving the packet a shake. I don't think the experiment lasted very long - it was difficult to get an even coating of flavour.

Notable mention to Space Invaders, Burton's Fish n Chips - which had a great vinegary bite and, I recall from my primary school days, Hedgehog Flavour crisps.

I think in my younger days the only option was Smiths Crisps (potato flavour) with a little blue paper sack containing salt for tipping into the crisp bag which was then shaken.
Memories of trips to Camber Sands and stops on the way home for a Coca Cola and crisps, only plain or cheese and onions in those days. Usual pub stops were the Cherry Tree near Ticehurst, or the (long demolished) Rock Robin by Wadhurst Station.

Probably earliest memory of eating crisps is in a pub with parents given a coke and salt and vinegar square crisps - glorious.

For me as a kid in the 70’s it was Smiths, Golden Wonder and KP
KP crisps I seem to recall always being sold in pubs ?
A bottle of coke and a packet of Smoky Bacon KP crisps - the staple diet of many a kid who got dragged along to the pub with parents in the 70’s

Pretty much a carbon copy of all my summer weekends when I was young
If this ritual was played out in Sussex, as a kid I’m sure like me you had your favourite Sussex pub gardens post Cricket match, although my dads team Noel Bennetts’s played at a few venues that had their own club houses

My favourite pub was either the Royal Oak at Barcombe or the Pub at Scaynes Hill and clubhouse was Henfield, Glynde or Petworth Park
