Films that make you cry

The first Fast & Furious... it really was that bad.

On a serious note, Midnight Express. I really felt for the poor guy when he was just 53 days away from being released from that hellhole of a Turkish prison after 4 years inside, only to be sentanced to another 26! Very hard to take in.
Immense joy when he managed to escape.

Ther are lots of films I've deliberately avoided because I know I will wail through them. Even though I know Schindlers List is a must-see film I just don't want to put myself through it.

I know that some horrifically sad things have happened in this world and continue to happen, but I prefer to be informed through books rather than spend precious leisure time having my heart-strings tugged by dramatic images and stirring music and end up in an emotional heap.

The question is, 'are any of these films as tear jerking as the end of Blackadder goes forth'? I think not.

For purely sentimental reasons, Field of Dreams. I can't help but think about Falmer and say to myself 'If you build it, they will come'.

Going back to the Schindler's List debate, I felt that on the whole this was a pretty honourable attempt by a mainstream Hollywood director - and I say that as someone who doesn't normally care for Spielberg's films and their sentimentality. However, I felt that Polanski's The Pianist was a more powerful film, although it had its flaws too. Some of the scenes were almost unwatchable in their brutality, but somehow I got a more palpable sense of what it must have been like to live through that hell.

Couldn't agree with you more Chappers. Found the whole episode brilliant and the end was spectacular. one if those "quiet moments of reflection" in a sitcom. I'm assuming that it is classed as a sitcom.

My signature refers to that moment.

(My avatar doesn't do it justice really)

I had a lump in my throat at the end of The Shawshank Redemption.

But it turned out to be a pork scratching.

Another one agreeing... along with Blackadder (the poster!) above. Best end to any sitcom...

Actually found a bit in Toy Story 2 quite upsetting, but that was probably something to do with the bird bawling her eyes out at the time.

The end of Pretty In Pink and the part in Little Women where Jo turns down Laurence make me cry. Never fails. But then I'm soft.
