Barnes suffered within our fanbase because:

1) He wasn't as good a finisher as Murray
2) He wasn't as good at holding the ball or heading as Ulloa
3) He wasn't as pacy as Lua Lua or Buckley
4) He wasn't as talented as Vicente
5) He wasn't as skilful as Orlandi
6) He didn't have the range of passing as Spanish Dave

He suffered because he was regarded as inferior to all our other front players at that time, and a certain section of fans just didn't understand what he did bring to the table.

1) He gave 100% every game and played with passion
2) His finishing was probably on a par with Ulloa, and only just behind Muzza
3) He raised his game even more for the bigger games.
4) His defensive qualities on the left side of midfield were key to our formation
5) His crossing was actually pretty good (see Ulloa diving header v Arsenal)
6) His penalty taking was good compared to anyone but SD
7) He scored important goals, and was SO close to scoring in THAT game twice.

We were spoilt for talent back then, but can anyone hand on heart say they wouldn't have him back here now?

And here lies the problem. We were spoilt under Poyet. Winning League One, new stadium, first 2 seasons in the Championship were brilliant. This gave our fans a ridiculous sense of entitlement, and we expected a team of flair players, that the grafters were forgotten and under appreciated by simpletons.

What are the chances that Barnes will score more in the Premiership this season than CMS will in the Championship?

And he's still only 25 with the best years ahead of him.

You could throw in, what are the chances that CMS will ever play in the Premiership......

In fact, has Barnes now scored more goals in that league than Murray?

And Ulloa was fit (or at least fit enough to play every minute of every game).
Who was out from our attacking unit.

I definitely remember thinking FFS we were down to the bare bones before Barnes' 7 (?) game ban.

Having a difference of opinions is fine, and is of course absolutely natural, but bear in mind most people here watch the team play regularly and therefore have a more rounded opinion of what's going on.
I've watched loads of games pal and have a right to an opinion....Is this a "look at me" im a super fan thingy?

Glenn Murray only has 1 Premier League goal to his name. Barnes has 4, Ulloa 7.

Centre of Attention for a bit now, tea-time yet?
You twisting things"centre of attention"is just ridiculous...Just incredible the amount of people who look back instead of forwards on here.
Would you prefer everybody to agree with your opinion then?

Hoskins was out, like he was pretty much his entire time with us. CMS was out - it was only a couple of games after his injury.

They were also both out when Ulloa needlessly lunged in v Reading the following season to earn a three game suspension, leaving Barnes our only option. As he was when Ulloa got injured shortly after returning from that suspension.

But you don't go to watch the Albion, that will impact the value of your opinion. This is by no means a popularity contest and I don't profess to be a super fan, but quite simply, by going to the games I'll have a better perspective of what happens than someone who doesn't, like you.

I go to numerous games every season pal although I don't need to explain this to you?

I haven't seen a single post from anyone admitting they were wrong about Barnes
Look harder. Post #5 on this thread for example, plus other threads this season when Barnes has been mentioned.

The club were insane to let him go for £750k and not offer him a PROPER contract that reflected his current ability, future ability and SERVICE he had given the club.

Burnley mugged us right off, and the club mugged itself off.

Good luck to Ash, just very sad it's not in the stripes of Brighton.

Sums up our recruitment and retention over the last couple of years.

Your quite right it is a board for opinion and view points but you have also thrown in a certain amount of stupidity! While you have said some of us are looking backward and not forward, we are actually commenting on recent events of one our ex-players who split opinion!

You go to a couple at most, and went to the Withdean once. I remember this being one of the many reasons people used to take the piss out of you on FF.
You sad sad man:lolol:
Yes I went to the Withdean once, but plenty of away games:lolol:
You're looking a tit now as I was worshipped on there and many just made up the number...You know what "BANTER" is as clearly you don't.

You have so much knowledge of me on there that you obviously was one of the many that licked my feet:lolol:
