Looks like white smoke might be on its way.
Time to move on in my view.

We can't be held to ransom by Fenerbahce - either it gets sorted this weekend or not.

I for one am getting to the point that I think we need to move for whoever is next on Tony's list.
I'd love to see the reaction if, having agreed and completed the deal, we pulled out on the grounds that it's dragged on a bit longer than some would like and we're being "held to ransom".

(Edit: sorry, not sure why I quoted you in the end ... it was more directed at the person you quoted!)

Twitter is no different from other possible sources. It's just an online reflection of how gossip and rumour mills have always worked. Don't judge the validity of a rumour based on "where" it has been presented. Base it on "who" has presented it and whether or not the content of the rumour "passes the smell test".

Twitter has its fair share of dodgy rumour mongers who make shit up. So does every other platform, including your local pub. Twitter also has its fair share of sources who have connections and regularly provide rumours that have legs. As does every other platform, including your local pub.

I'd personally place Romano in the latter group. He has connections. He hears things. He gets fed stuff deliberately in order to help make things happen. Does he always get things right? Nope, he doesn't. Is he a bit of a bellend? Yup, he is. Does he lack the ability to apply some critical thinking as to whether he should/should not post something he's heard / been asked to post? I reckon he might. But does that make him a source we should always ignore? No, it doesn't. Because whether we like it or not, he *is* connected. What we need to do as consumers of rumours is to apply our own critical thinking to what he provides us. Are there signs that he's being "used" by an agent / club (eg Caicedo)? Are there other corroborating sources? Does the rumour fit with other information we already know?

Keep in mind: rumours exist because deals take time to happen. A rumour that gets posted today could be fully accurate, and yet still never happen because something changes tomorrow. IMO Romano tends to share rumours at a much earlier phase of discussions that others; he does it because he's looking to get the scoop, but he also faces a much higher risk of the rumour not panning out.
so, let me get this right ... Romano's at my local?

Do you not think Tony has a Plan B?
He might well not. Not in the sense of an immediate replacement this transfer window, anyway. The plan b might well be to make do with what we have. In fact I would guess it probably is.

Do you not think Tony has a Plan B?

Obviously he does, but he'd rather plan A came through. What exactly is your reason for wanting us to pull out - because they're asking for more money than we'd like to spend? That's exactly what we did with Cuckoo and Caicedo, and exactly what Fenerbahce should be doing. Obviously if that fee becomes higher than we're prepared to pay, then the deal won't happen. But if Tony feels the fee is worth paying, then what's the problem?

I suspect you might be on your own in this.

I also suspect you would not be great at poker. There is a time to fold and this is not that time.

Yep, I think with your detailed knowledge and involvement of the negotiations going on, you must be right.

The cesspit of hate almost overwhelms the desire to check it for transfer gossip.
Twitter as a platform ... yeah, generally a cesspit.

But ... it can be made usable. #1 ... don't use the "For you" section at all unless you've taken some time to understand how it is built. #2 keep your Following list tightly controlled to the specific people you know you want to see content from "always". #3 for everything else, make use of the Lists feature (eg I've got a Formula 1 list that I go look at periodically, for example, but I don't want that content in my main feed all the time, especially as some of them are US-based and tweet out on NASCAR etc as well). #4 If and when you see anything you don't like (eg ads outside your interest area, anything cesspit-worthy that surfaces in "For you"), mute / block the account.

If you're reasonably careful about what content you consume on the platform, the "For you" algorithm can be trained to give you the content you're interested. I dip into mine from time to time, as it's surfaced a couple of newer F1-related account for me to add to my list.
