Really want to get this one over the line.

Have had a horrible feeling it won’t happen though and the recent silence had made me think it was dead in the water.

The source this time is top tier for Turkish stuff so I think the bid is correct, whether it gets accepted and beyond that if he wants to come are less certain

Perhaps we are bidding in the knowledge that he will come? Otherwise why waste all this time?

Get that lot and the humble pie factory will need to do some extra shifts on here for those who‘ve been saying our recruitment is screwed, strategy is flawed etc etc
Fairly sure that includes De Zerbi. Spends 6 months whining about our transfer strategy and negotiates an exit, only for us to potentially blow £100m on players who are exactly in the age and ability range he was complaining about us never signing.

Mats Weiffer £30m, Full international, 24 years old
Matt O'Reilly, £25m, Full international, 23 years old
Ferdi Kadioglu, £35m, Full international, 24 years old
Yankuba Minteh,, £30m, Full international, 19 years old
Mats Hummels, Free, Full international, 31 years old

If we sign even one or two of those, that's a hell of a window

I thought the issue wasn't so much that we weren't signing players of a particular age and ability but that we weren't signing the specific players he wanted?

………seems he thought he could get TB/PB to change the strategy (despite him undoubtedly being told before he joined that we wouldn’t), presumably once he got us into Europe and started believing his own hype. Once it was made clear to him that wasn’t going to happen, he got all pissy…….in the meantime TB/PB simply decided not to change anything apart from the manager

It's a matter of timing to an extent though, no?

Just two of those players would really have helped last season when we were playing European football for the first time with most of our key attacking players injured or ill and no real replacement for Caicedo.

However, that's partly because this window is the sweet spot for us. The PSR bank we built up with player sales has allowed us to be far more dominant in this window than a lot of richer clubs who'd overspent. And June 2024 was when it kicked in.

RDZ should have shown some patience and trusted the recruitment in place for sure. That doesn't mean last season's squad was anywhere near adequate. Even before most of the injuries we were having to play Milner as a right back and Gilmour and Gross as ball winners.

Then he got contrite late in the season when all the jobs he’d been touted for were no longer available. I get the impression he was open to staying by season’s end but TB’s mind had been made up a month or so earlier. Complete conjecture of course.

Agree but that's TB/PB not panicking about a half-season 'dip' and a slightly disappointing finish and looking at the long term
