I bet Bloom is privately livid at what's happened so far following the investment in medical staff.

These are expensive assets getting injured. And Ferguson's potential value is taking a battering.

You can have literally the best medical team in the world and it won't prevent players from getting injured, so I highly doubt TB is livid. He's recruited this medical team to help players become a bit more resilient to common injuries and also to hopefully recover a bit quicker from those that can be sped up through treatment.

There's not much they can do to prevent MOR suffering a bad challenge or Ferdi breaking a bone.

And do you know, we had way fewer injured players when our medical staff was just a portly ex pro with a sponge

Serious questions to answer in my view of what has happened in the last 12 or so months

They could reduce the injury risk if they made O'Riley wear proper shinpads!

What about the intervening 40 years?
Fat man with sponge was not what we had 12 months ago.
Is this recency bias gone mad or are you today's master of sarcasm and wit? ???

Forty years ago players were so unfit they were almost incapable of seriously injuring one another.
Even the likes of Norman Hunter were ten stone of wet piss. Take a look at his arms in old pics.
They needed a ciggy and a whiskey at half time just to motivate themselves for the second half.

Fast forward....I remember being stunned by a big player's physique when he whipped off his shirt after scoring 20 years ago. Now half the team are built like boxers and the rest built like kung fu ninjas. They are fast and can do serious damage to others and themselves.

De Zerbi's first season in charge we had unusually few injuries, which was a big contributor to the momentum we managed to build.

Last season we had among the most in the league, this season we have the most.

This season we've had more arising from opposition challenges than previously - João Pedro, O'Riley and Kadioglu prominently.

What is really frustrating though is these "minor issues" that end up ruling the player out for months and months.

It's the communication thing isn't it? Often when there are travel delays it's the lack of information or conflicting messages that annoy people more than the delays themselves.

Injuries happen. Impact injuries are unpreventable. Muscle injuries, while they can be mitigated a bit more are inevitiable.

Unfortunately, we had a lot of injuries last season and a coach who was in conflict with the club owner and CEO over recruitment, partly due to those injuries. So, when we changed medical staff we made a big song and dance of it. Now people are remembering that and putting 2 and 2 together to get 5 (sometimes) and, likely, 4 sometimes.

The new medics have done a fantastic job with March and I know he was seeing them as soon as he was able. They rehabilitated O'Riley really well from a serious impact injury. But this? This just looks like a massive f*** up.

But most injuries aren't caused by other players. Actually it's pretty rare that we've had two, out of about 15, that were.

And i shudder to think what sort of team we'd be currently putting out if our hyper conditioned cossetted stars were playing and training on pitches like Norman Hunter was

Indeed. And even when fit are we any closer to knowing his best position?
No we aren't because he's not played enough and he can play in a number of different ones. I'm wondering if he was actually the Gross replacement in that respect as I thought it was O'Riley, who doesn't seem nearly combative enough for midfield at the moment. Right back is a funny one for us. Lots of players who can 'do a job' there but only Veltman who is a proper 'defender'.

Incidentally, it's interesting that when players gets injured it's "the medical team" who ****ed it up, but when a player like O'Riley returned from a serious injury within 3 months, there's barely a peep of praise from anyone other than the player.

Isn't that true when it comes to anything nowadays, we seldom praise when everything's working but are quick to moan (me included...) when it doesn't. It a shame, I'll try to be better at it.

Seems a very long time ago he was parading round in that Man from Del Monte suit.

Really poor return on investment from our summer signings so far, albeit for a variety of reasons.
This is the one that hurts the most from an ability and position point of view. Ferdi was such an important signing for us for the now, not just the future like some of the other signings.

Agree- but I wonder if part of the sludge in the information flow is tactical? Not to provide our competitors with the detailed status of player’s availability or overall squad fitness.
Last season we had among the most in the league, this season we have the most.
Wolves, Brentford and Spurs also have 9 players out, Cherries 8.

Hinshelwood, Webster (fit) and Pervis all back in the next few weeks so barring any more serious injuries, I don’t think we are ‘suffering’ exceptionally more than other teams at any one time but maybe the higher end of the spectrum for injuries it is something that for us as a Club that’s inevitable?

Our recruitment strategies means we rely on a lot of young players, who as we know are more prone to stress fractures, and also recruit older seasoned players so are relying on several key 33-4 year olds (and Milner who’s 38!) who we know will be prone to muscle injury and fatigue.

I praised it five posts earlier. You have to give them credit for March and O’Riley.

I'm sure there was a stat with "total minutes missed" or some such and we were top by a fair margin.
