FC United - bit big for their boots?

It's 44 miles from the centre of Manchester to Fylde FC, did they really need to take a Nutritionist on that journey ? Are they trying to monitor the players intake of Prawn sandwiches ?

Probably not but surely all the posturing and communication around this dwarfs the £8 lost gate receipt.

FC may have got all big billy bollocks but can't help but think the home side have played a part in this creating an issue out of something that really should not have ever got that far.

As far as I can tell the main dispute is with the fact that the Glaziers are milking the Man U cash cow to the detriment of the playing side and that Man U aren't the behemoth they once were. It's not about reclaiming football for real fans - it's about reclaiming the top spot. Where were the demonstrations when they went PLC? Where were all the protests when Man U were whoring themselves in Mickey Mouse matches in the Far East? Where were the letters and boycotts when they didn't play in the FA Cup one year? I don't recall a single Man U fan moaning about when they pioneered the aggressive marketing of Man U as a brand across the high streets all across Britain in the nineties and noughties to the detriment of local football clubs - ours included.

Abso-bloody-exactly. Haven't read the thread so don't really know about FCUM but in terms of Man U, this is EXACTLY how I see it. No big fan of owners like those of Chelsea and Man C but it's kind of worth it when I hear man U fans bleating about not being able to complete financially. Ha ****ing Ha.

My question was more rhetorical but we do know that no other club gets those gates because FCUM have told us so themselves and I know for a fact that Worthing who are at the same level don't claim to have hundreds of volunteers. Nor do they have as many staff nor would they have a hope in hell of raising £2M privately through a fan share scheme. Nor do they have a current and active membership list that has hundreds of members from across the UK and Europe.

I could do a little digging on Google for other clubs but I think it's safe to assume that Worthing is more representative of what constitutes a typical club at that level than FCUM who enjoy considerable advantages over their rivals - not least the publicity that they generate from people eager to promote them as the future of football.

Worthing are a step below FCUM who are in the Northern Premier, which is the same tier as Lewes and Bognor. Lewes being a similar model to FCUM of course as others have stated on this thread.


edit: I see this has already been pointed out.

FCUM average attendance is 1600, Chorley 700 2nd for the division. Lewes don't do bad with around 600 or so at this level either.

Greetings fella's, it's been a fair while since I last posted but in the interests of replying to a scurrelous post by the so called chairman of AFC £ylde lets put things in perspective!!! the week before this game our board members were invited to sit down at the match and enjoy a sumptious four course meal supplied by £ylde, the board refused because as they do at every game they stand on the terraces because as well as being board members they are also fans! i think this upset the £ylde hierachy and resulted in them restricting our numbers ( these numbers being the same as the last time we played there)....that is what started all this garbage off!!!!
the board then made the details of this incident general knowledge to all the FCUM members.......want to hear more

I'm curious as to why you've described those who are against the concept of FCUM as fans in inverted commas. Are you suggesting that we aren't real fans? I take it you are implying something derogatory because of the later 'Chelsea-style' reference.

So we're not 'real' fans but Man U fans are. Haha!

Man U sold their soul to the devil in the 90s and all those FCUM fans were perfectly happy as long as the trophies rolled in and there was only one club that mattered. As others have said - if they really wanted to get their club back then campaign from within as we did. The fact that a club so low-down in the football pyramid has so many hangers-on and admin staff rather suggests they have a very high opinion of themselves. What they can't cope with is the rest of us knowing that they didn't give a toss about the rest of football back when they were winning trebles and half of Singapore and China wearing their shirts and despite their protestations to the contrary they don't care about grassroots football now. All they care about is winning and winning on their terms.

Not really, no. You'd get a different story from a Fylde fan, and to be honest it's actually VERY boring.

there were no words spoken with regard to boycotting purchases at the ground by the boards statement but there was a general opinion that we didn't want to spend anything because of £yldes decision, a board member and a supporter from FCUM were stood inside the ground explaining to our support that they had a choice to either buy or not buy goods in the ground! at this point a foul mouthed female steward came over and told the board member to desist otherwise they would be ejected!
to which the reply was "I'm a board member and am only explaining to our own support that they have a choice to buy or not to buy"

Hmm. Club sees FC United cash cow on the horizon. Cash cow doesn't behave as told. Club publicly condemns cash cow as hooligans and thieves.

Waaah waaah. What utterly pathetic behaviour from Fylde.

They condemn officials for not sitting in their fancy director's section, when any FC fan knows our board members and esteemed Presidente always stand with the fans, being, er, fans themselves.

They moan about a nutritionist, but had no problem with the same nutritionist being there last season.

They moan about radio commentators, but seemingly had no problem with the radio guys interviewing their chairman for the NPL Show, which gives their club publicity.

They moan about people boycotting pies and programmes yet make no mention of the packed bar.

They say 'the majority of FC United fans were well behaved and courteous', but they make sure to say it in paragraph 18, right at the end, after a big rant describing us basically as hooligans and thieves.

We're also expected to believe that they have a spare key to the home changing room but not the away changing room. Arf.

I think they still don't grasp that we're all co-owners. There isn't a guy in the suit who tells us how to behave. You have an issue, then go and bring it up with the 1,000, sorry, 400 people behind the goal. Accusing the 'officials' of 'coming out in sympathy with their own fans' - sorry but you don't get it. They ARE fans.

Terrible sour grapes after they got their arses handed to them.

I don't think either club comes out of it with much grace, frankly.

Fylde seem a bit petty on the ticket front, but on the other hand it strikes me as fairly pretentious for FCUM to take a nutritionist 40 miles up the road for a non-league game played by a bunch of (I presume) part timers who probably eat at Gregg's when they're doing their day jobs in Homebase or fitting boilers.

and for all the people who are asking that old chesnut question "why don't they go and support a local team" come on guys we answered this question in 2006.
we've got plenty of good friends at Brighton and rightly so, so guys before you judge just have a look at the facts! this is a storm in a teacup nothing else! and it say's something when a club "Can't" find the key to the visitors changing rooms leaving the players waiting in the rain and cold! by the way, when they did get in there there was not hot drinks available to them! a disgrace! maybe the fact that we were one nil up warmed the lads up instead.

Worthing get higher attendances than a fifth of the teams in FCUM's league and is a lot nearer to the rest of FCUM's rivals despite being a league lower and leaving the likes of Chorley in the calculation.
