A similar thread to this was started a few months ago and I think that you're all wrong.

The fastest Albion player has to be Frankie Howard, (please, no "Ooohh Missus" jokes), who, when receiving the ball, would push it 30 yards past the opposition fullback and then absolutely leave him for dead.

Any other fans who watched the Albion in the mid fifties should be able to verify this.

Frankie was like greased lightening but it appearred that Freddie Jones was faster but I may be wrong. If you saw Frankie you would also have seen Freddie no doubt.

Jakey may be quicker, I really don't know but the Walker I remember really did have pace.

Might just be what I want to remember though but it's all subjective, I used to love watching ol' slaphead and I'm sticking with him!

I go with the original poster, BG. Frankie is certainly the quickest player I've ever seen play for the Albion. I agree Freddie was fast, but he didn't have the speed of the joker Frankie Howard. Frank clocked just over 10 seconds in a 100 yard athletic sprint whilst representing his forces team, and that was very very fast in the fifties.

Which is why he came off the bench so often..... frightened tired defences with his speed... think after a while they realised they could leave him out there running as he really wasn't going anywhere... neither he nor his crosses. Pity. There was another player who was fast and came off the bench like Towner in the mid-early-late seventies... not Potts but someone else... who was it? I know he never made the grade but was good off the bench in 76-77 I think.

I think you could mean Gerry Fell? very quick for a big man. Whatever happened to him?

My vote for fastest asgain goes to dave Armstrong. Shame he often ran out of pitch!

Correct answer, I think he was touted as being a (British) Olympic 100 metre prospect but chose football, at which he really was quite shit, but he was very very quick.
